8 (Mostly True) Facts About Mondays

What we’d all like to being doing on Mondays… Photo: Dana Ross Martin ~ WANA Commons

I don’t know about you, but I suck at Mondays. And mornings. They’re just not my thing. My only solution to the Monday Madness is to share some smiles.

Facts and theories about the first (often dreaded) day of the week.

1. Monday isn’t actually the worst day of the week. (Tuesday is.) Monday is when you find out what you missed from the prior week – Tuesday is when you must DO those things.

2. Visits to Sexy Town or Hanky-Panky-Ville guarantee a great Monday mood. Married people are more likely to have sex on the weekends (especially if they have kids). Plus, they’ve had some sleep. (This supports my theory from #1.)

3. Monday is hands down the best traffic day of the week. Seriously. All those people who take 3 day weekends are off the roads. Plus there’s lots of “weekend flu” going around on Monday mornings.

4. 50% of workers are late on Monday mornings. No joke. I think it’s the stress, which is kind of hilarious considering most people only work about 3.5 productive hours on Mondays. Or maybe it’s that “weekend flu.”

5. I always have clean hair on Mondays. I can’t state that unequivocally every day. Things happen. But the weekends are when I catch up and that includes hair washing.

6. I drink more coffee on Mondays. Hey, I’m not bragging. Truth is, I’m usually dragging from trying to cram everything in over the weekend. Most days I have 2 cups but on Monday’s I mainline caffeine just to get my verve on for the week.

7. Monday brings cute outfits to the workplace. This is directly related to the aforementioned point of trying to cram everything into the weekend. That includes laundry. This unearths serious clothing treasure.

8. Most people don’t smile until after 11 am on a Monday. (11:16 am to be exact.) Huh. Who knew?

What theories do you have about Monday? Where does it fall in your “Like” rankings? How was your weekend? Equiring minds always want to know these things here at More Cowbell!

Ha, when I got to number 8, I realized my mouth was noncommittal for emotions and looked at the clock, 11:05… made me smile -thanks, I beat the clock, which has to mean something right? More coffee or more cowbell?

  2. Count your blessings, Jenny. We retired people never get a day off. We just keep on doing the same things day after day, so Mondays are just like Thursdays or Saturdays.

  3. I don’t mind Mondays. Especially since we’ve moved to Mississippi. You see, here at the inn we rarely have anyone check IN on Mondays. Usually everyone checks out on Sunday, which means, I get to sleep in on Mondays because I don’t have to get up and make breakfast. We do sometimes get those folks who’ll stay an extra day and check out on Monday, but hardly ever.

But, I do NOT do mornings. That was the hardest part of becoming an innkeepper. Some of these guests want breakfast at 7:30, which means I’ve got to get up and get cooking – literally – early. We usually only offer breakfast between 8 and 9, but we do get those folks who are early risers or have a lot of pavement to cover the next day so they want to get up and get going sooner than that. (sigh) I just plaster on a smile and cook up some yumminess.

Have a great week my friend.

  4. John Holton says:

I never thought Mondays were all that bad. Sundays were when I was traveling, because it usually meant squeezing my fat self into a too-small airline seat for sweveral hours, most of which were spent on the ground in Atlanta or Chicago, then getting to the hotel and not knowing if anyplace was open for dinner. When I wasn’t traveling, Wednesday wasn’t exactly my favorite day, either. It’s probably the worsst TV night…

Isn’t that the worst, when you are in a strange hotel and there’s no dinner to be found. My traveling days were when I started carrying food everywhere I went. Now that I’ve identified my gluten problems, it’s a habit that has served me well!

  5. Today was the sucky Monday of all Mondays! Even though I’m retired, there is a definite “Monday vibe” in that on this day I’m listing everything I need to accomplish over the week and it can be daunting.

I used to hate Mondays when I had a regular job. I still hate mornings. But now that I basically work my own schedule, have days off whenever I schedule them, Monday is just the day I get to drive somewhere and actually have something to break up the boredom.

I like #7, “unearths serious clothing treasure.” lol. That one cracked me up. I don’t mind Monday. It seems that every day of the week is busy and one week runs into the next. In fact, I find that the weekends can be busier than weekdays. Therefore Monday is really not a bad day of the week for me. Now if I had school aged children or had to drive on a freeway on Monday, that would be a different story. 🙂

School-aged children add quite a bit of excitement to Mondays. I find myself wanting to crawl back into bed after the Monday morning trials of getting my girl (and any of her pals that I’m walking) to school.

I’m loving more cowbell on Mondays, or any day for that matter. But in terms of being late … We’re alway racing to beat the bell at school on Mondays. I used think Monday’s sucked but all the days sort of blend in when kids are in summer break 🙂
