Facebook rides to the entertainment rescue again! This is the best “big book” title I’ve seen since The Big Coloring Book of Vajayjays.
One of my pals (she can out herself if she likes in the comments) sent me this book cover and we had the following tongue-in-cheek chat:
Her: Who knew horses were GAY?
Me: I know, right? I should post with that exact title.
Her: Where’s your compassion? This is a tragically overlooked minority…
Me: Absolutely. Total lesbian horse discrimination.
The reviews for the book support our cover-reading mistake:
(I adore sarcastic Amazon reviewers!)
Review #1: Definitely not what I was expecting
So I’m a big opponent of all things heteronormative, and so it was nice to finally find some literature that featured horses partaking in a different lifestyle (not that it’s a choice, mind you, I just liked that they admitted some lady horses probably liked other lady horses). Except that this book was not at all about homosexual mares…
Review #2: Not as arousing as it sounds
Not as arousing as the title would have you believe. Plus, it is no larger than a regular sized book of lesbian horse stories.
Review #3: Exciting!
As a young filly I found this tome to be soul-satifying. I did not realize I could have passionate realtionships with anything other than the barn cat (her name is Willow, sigh. . . . . ). It has opened my horizons which I expect to fill with exciting new friends and partners. Thank you The Big Book of Lesbian Horse Stories!
The book description tells the REAL story. I’ll let y’all read that by yourselves, IYKWIM. (Spoiler alert: apparently that title refers to female humans, romping near horses.)
Four things that fascinated me as I read the description:
1. This book was pubbed by Kensington, which means they saw a viable niche market.
2. It’s called a “Big Book” but it’s only 240 pages.
3. The paperback version can be bought new at $71 and change. (That’s almost $0.30 per page! Wowzers.) The e-version is currently on sale for $8.69. *giggling*
4. People who bought this book also viewed: Unicorns Are Jerks: a coloring book exposing the cold, hard, sparkly truth. (Also, a fantastic book title!)
Looking at the front cover, what did YOU expect this book to be about? Have any other wild books crossed your path lately? Enquiring minds always want to know these things here at More Cowbell!

I still don’t get it.

Char, the book is about real-live human same-sex relationships, NOT that you’d get that from the title. This title slays me.
But in honor of your comment, I edited the post so this would be more obvious. 🙂

Yes, some lady horses like other lady horses. It’s really not all that interesting.

Apparently I forgot to mention that this book isn’t at all about what the title implies (grammar does matter!). You and Shar are helping me out with these comments, so THANKS. I appreciate you. 🙂

Oooooh you mean that kind of lesbian stories. Never mind.

Okay, I read the Amazon description and I still have no idea what this book is about. And, seriously, who writes about this stuff? I mean, I had a gay dog (he humped everything) but I don’t think I need to write a book about it. But wait, that’s not really what the book’s about is it?
I suppose if I call it the Big Book of Gay Dogs, it might fetch a higher selling price. And then there’s the photo element – should I include photos or just let imaginations go wild. Or call if the Big Book of Gay Dogs, but have the main character be a parakeet – or a weasel. The possibilities are endless.
This is just another – wow moment in cyberworld.

My point EXACTLY, Patricia! The offerings of our cyber world continue to make my jaw drop on a regular basis. 🙂
And what’s up with cats and dogs that hump everything? My gal-pal Alicia has a dog that chases around his stuffed pig like it’s a long-lost lover.

We had a cockatiel that would rape any napkin or Kleenex he saw. Woe betide the person who left his/her used paper goods in plain sight!

A napkin?? Really? That’s wild, Jennifer!

You know, I’m still scarred from the last More Cowbell book I researched – eh hem, dino porn – so I’m going to take your word for it on this round and pass on my little pony. For the record though, I’m pro homo-horse-sexuals. Carry on.

I was completely impressed that you ventured into the Dinosaur Erotica. You definitely get a pass on the lesbian horses. (And can you imagine someone coming on this comment with no experience with the two of us family-friendly souls??)
“pro homo-horse-sexuals…” ROFL.

I would never get what this book is really about by the title. I’m still trying to figure out if horses can be lesbians.

I am noting photoshopped figure enhancements on the cover. Not cool. Methinks this is not about real women or real horses. Not at all.

Yep, the whole cover looks a bit unbelievable to me. However, it was the tagline and the title that just KILLED me. (Not that it takes much to make me laugh my guts out…)

I used to ride as a teenager, and I remember being told that stallions can be attracted to geldings (that’s castrated male horses to the uninitiated!) – maybe they can sense they’re missing horse testosterone and get confused? Who knows, but gay horses isn’t as far fetched as you’d think 😉

I stand corrected, Claire…thank you! Truly, I learn the best stuff here at the blog. 🙂
