I promise y’all, I am not smoking the funky weed over here in California. “Blue-Blue” is featured in the title of my Little Bean’s first story, which I am turning in to her teacher this morning.
This kid’s imagination is awesome, so I thought I’d share Blue-Blue with you guys.
[I am dying over this story. DYING.]
Enjoy!
Blue-Blue, My Favorite Disco Dancing Cat
When I am nine, I will get a cat with black and white stripes and white polka dots. Her first name is Blue-Blue and her last name is Jen. I will put a gold and blue hat on her, and will paint her nails with white and blue stripes.
I will give her a bath, every day for 100 days, then I will give her a shower. I will give her yummy cat food: edamame, Goldfish crackers and bananas. I will also give her cat drinks like water and milk. She will have catfish for dessert because that’s the kind of fish cats like.
Blue-Blue likes to take hikes in the mountains and walk around the block. We have important conversations. About mommies and doors.
I will take her to cat school, which is next to my school. Her teacher’s name is Miss Patty. At cat school they teach her how to juggle, how to count to eight and how to add 100 and 100. The teacher also teaches all the cat kids to count by tens.
When they are done learning, they get to play Candyland or Hide & Seek. Then they disco dance. They don’t wear outfits; they just dance in their kitty fur.
When I get out of school, I will pick up my kitty and we will go back home. We’ll play video games together and type in our Lexia passwords.
We will paint pictures of strangers who become friends. I do that all the time. On share day, I will bring my cat story.
My very favorite parts?
She will have catfish for dessert because that’s the kind of fish cats like.
We have important conversations. About mommies and doors.
Then they disco dance. They don’t wear outfits; they just dance in their kitty fur.
I’d be very fascinated to know what is so important about doors that she must converse about them with her phantom cat. Huh.
What do you think, y’all? Do we have a budding writer here?
And how are you, my friends? Are you surviving Daylight Savings Time, or are you feeling like me this week? (see the photo below) Enquiring minds need your details here at More Cowbell!
Zzzzzzzz,
Jenny
You need to save this FOREVER! Love love love it. Many parts, but especially, ;Her first name is Blue-Blue and her last name is Jen. I will put a gold and blue hat on her, and will paint her nails with white and blue stripes.’

I will be saving this forever. We have a bin we throw her stuff in, and Steve scans the important stuff to a hard drive. This one is saved and saved. I love it!!

So. Much. Awesome. I love your kid and I never even met her. My favorite part was her description of “yummy cat food” including edamame and bananas. Oh, and that they learn to juggle in school and the disco in their kitty fur.
When I was in 3rd grade we had to write stories about how animals got their shapes. I chose a dachshund (we had one then named Boots) and my story involved eating wieners, farting, and going to the bathroom. Needless to say, my mother got a phone call.

The teacher called home over farting? What a lily-livered teacher. I’d have thought she’d laugh – that’s a great creative streak you were showing way back in the 3rd grade. 🙂

Cranky and menopausal. I wanted to learn more and expand myself as a writer so I took a couple of classes at Margie Lawson’s – taught by Sarah Hamer – and I loved them! I learned so much! But then we had our 3 day sales meeting for my day job and after two months of class plus working and then the sales meeting – it knocked me out of writing/mental commission for two weeks. Honestly, I am so in awe of anyone who writes for a living. And anyone who writes AND holds a day job – get out. I don’t know how you guys do it. Because besides writing, life -good and bad- keeps happening. I just don’t know if I have the bandwidth to keep all the balls in the air. The only thing I have going for me is I’m stubborn as hell. 🙂 How about you? Anything new and delicious in the Undie Chronicle Presidential Race?

LOL. Here’s what I think: Stubborn keeps us going. Almost every published writer I know worked a day job while they worked on their books and the way they did it was a set schedule.
I have a really hard time with a set schedule, so I do periodic fast drafts where a group of us bang out as much as we can over a few weeks so it doesn’t matter whether we slack off a bit the rest of the time. So I say, do what works best for you – you might have to experiment to find out what that is, but then stick with it.

Cousin Jen, you definitely have another writer on your hands. We are baby-sitting Tommy this morning. I read the story to him, and he got a real kick out of it.

That’s awesome! I’m glad Tommy liked it. I can’t believe how big our little ones are getting.
We talk about you guys and Austin all the time – we miss you!

How sad is that, Amy?! She’s five and she’s a crack up. I was laughing the whole time I took notes for this.

That is an awesome sauce story and you’ll probably never know the why, because when she is old enough to tell you, she won’t know. I think there are some things only kids know and adults were never meant to know. Love it!!!

I know!! She gave me a middle name like McIntire this morning when she was recounting the story for her little friend that we walk to school with. I’d like to meet this Blue-Blue.

LOLOL, I love it! I raise my “cat drink” to her. *clink*
P.S. – The cat is going to be way more squeaky clean than I am…100 days of baths and then a shower? Wowzers.
P.P.S. – Daylight Savings Time is killing me…I feel like something the cat dragged in….

Right? And I have yet to meet a cat that likes water, even though you see them on the internet. I’m raising my cat drink back atcha, girlie. 🙂

The “Bean” is so adorable! Oh how I miss her! She is definitely a writer in the making. No question about that. I guess nine is the tipping point. I think a black and white striped cat with white polka dots sounds perfectly respectable. I don’t recall if you have a kitty. But I see one named Blue in your future. Stock up on the catfish and cat drink Jenny! 🙂

Thanks, Karen. I’m allergic to cats so I told her she’ll need to be on her own before she gets one. I guess she’s got nine projected as her “on her own” date. LOLOLOL.

Our brother sent this email about a new story he made up called Urban Commandos (so many jokes right there)
He wtite: “I would like to propose a new original show called, “The Urban Commandos.” These urban commandos were genetically engineered like real urban legends. (See the show “Supernatural”) Their brains were unfortunately damaged in the engineering so they were gradually becoming less and less capable and more and more crazy. (See TMNT #039; character, Zog) They are not able to tell what is real and what is not. They are not sure who is their leader and they get confused as to whom to follow. In their minds they “live” in a make believe world. (See show, “Small Soldiers”) They were genetically created to be ultimate super soldiers based on legendary supernatural creatures. (See show “Creature Commandos” In the show series of episodes there are character crossovers from other shows. ”
He I’d always trying to create a new, better super hero and get some tv producer to turn it into a show.

Urban Commandos…heh. I think their is a show by that name already, but it sounds awesome. The thing that cracks me up is he somehow believes, because I live in California, that I know all the producers at Sony and Disney. If only. 🙂

That right there is a best seller. You will, of course, keep a copy of this to share with her and all of her friends on her wedding day, because that’s what good moms do.
As far as smoking the “funky week,” I’m wondering if perhaps your neighbors might be taking a toke or two in the back yard and Little Missy’s feeling the effects of a second hand high. Hmmmm?
That’s precious stuff. Do not lose this story.

We are absolutely saving it, and I’ll be reminding her when she strikes out on her own and gets a cat that she MUST name it Blue-Blue. 🙂
I promise you, when we finally get to Baer House, that you will be highly entertained by her. She’s a stitch.

She can barely write properly and she’s written a wild story – sure sign of a budding writer. My youngest son is the same way. From the moment he could form a word, he started telling stories. Is your little bean a story “teller” as well? Because that’s the way I started out, coming up with tales off the top of my head at the age of 3 to entertain my little brother 🙂

Awwwww. You told your stories out loud. That’s awesome. I told a lot of mine on paper growing up, but then I started entertaining my gal pals with them. She’s pretty proud of her story – she asked to read it at share time today.

First off I’m sooooooo sorry it took me so long to get over here as I was on a week-long hiatus for no apparent reason other than Daylight Savings Time kicking my ass. But can I say how AWESOME this story is!! I love how important conversations are about mommies and doors, how cat drinks are water and milk, how catfish is what they like to eat and how they disco dance in kitty fur! LOVED it! Thanks so much for sharing I bet the mom in you was smiling and just couldn’t stop…you had one of those happy memories from Inside Out. Nice.

Daylight Saving Time kicked my ASS. Then we all the got some flu-ish cooties. Trust me, it didn’t take you as long to get to the party as it took me to come back to it. 🙂 My posting schedule has been abysmal lately.
Are you recovering from DST?
