There’s a Read Across America Tour – today they’re in Phoenix, tomorrow San Diego (Dr. Seuss’ home town!), then Denver and finally, the Children’s Museum in Atlanta. I hope you check out Thing 1 and Thing 2 at your local tour stop. Also, if you live in the Show Me State (Missouri), there’s the Cat Tracks Tour.

How wonderful and what a great initiative! Wish we had that down here. I love the story that goes that Dr. Seuss was rejected and rejected by the establishment at the time who felt his style was too strange, and they deemed it unsuitable. What a great comeback! As for the stories he wrote, we have loads of them. They’re particularly accessible to special kids, I guess because of the rhyming and the sense of fun. I’ve read Green Eggs & Ham way too many times!! 🙂

Did you see the second video with the school kids and the cafeteria worker talking about the book? It’s delightful. And I didn’t know that special needs kids particularly dug Seuss. That’s fantastic info. 🙂

Green Eggs and Ham, and the Foot book are the two most repeated Dr. Seuss books in my head. Although, not accurately. Dr. Seuss seems to be very much like the lyrics to songs for me – I get the cadence stuck in my head but the actual words escape me, so I make them up. Example: “Feet, feet, feet. How many feet, can you eat?” I never thought to make them naughty, so thanks a lot Jenny. Now my day will be spent making up pretend naughty words to Dr. Seuss, and not concentrating on my day job of selling office furniture. Oh darn.

This is so awesome, Jenny. Never knew it was an actual day, so thank you! Dr. Seuss was most definitely a genius. I’m sad I didn’t read more of him as a child, but it’s never too late. 🙂 My favorite quote (or one of my favorites anyway – he’s so damn sithy – (silly + pithy)) is the one the ones you posted: Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you! Love it. 🙂

I don’t think I read enough of him as a child either. But now I’ve got most of them for my girlie. BTW, if you want to fill in your collection, today is the day! His books are on sale in many places today. 🙂

I’m late! “How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” That’s me! I grew up with Dr. Seuss. I couldn’t wait to go to the library and check out more of his books each week. I read them all on the way home. Then read them over and over again. He was the best. Well, and there was “Fun with Dick and Jane.” Yeah, I’m that old. 🙂

My girlie is just now figuring out the magic of Seuss, now that she’s really learning to read. It’s awesome. The Foot Book and the Eye Book are her two current favorites. 🙂

Dude I LOVE this post and you totally got me with your first quote! Definitely vision board worthy. We read every night, usually three books or a couple of chapters of the longer ones. I like The Places You’ll Go (any quote from that book rocks) and my kids really enjoy The Lorax and The Grinch Stole Christmas. Dr. Seuss was such an innovative and creative storyteller, so amazing how a writer can touch so many lives. Nice post.
