You know, I always thought it was the Patriot Panties and the magic bracelets that gave Wonder Woman her power. Plus she has the Golden Lasso of Truth and those hot red leather go-go boots. I’ve been so deluded all this time.
According to Harvard professor, Amy Cuddy, the source of the Wonder Chick’s power comes from her kickass stance and her ability to “get bigger.”
Whether she was running, flying, fighting or defending, DC Comics gave Wonder Woman some powerful body language, along with those groovy muscles. Cuddy believes you can channel that power, through the use of body language, into your own life.

I adore Cuddy! I refer to her work in a few talks I give, and use a modified Superwoman pose before interviewing people who have me feeling a bit startruck or intimidated. It’s so empowering.

I’m reading her book Presence, which talks about her research into the super hero pose! It’s awesome! I haven’t personally taken “the stance” yet, but I will be for sure.

I am so behind, Lynn! I’m just finding out about this, and discovering Cuddy’s book and both her and Elizabeth Gilbert’s TED talks (even though they are both at least 2-3 years old). Ahhh, well. I know about it now, and I’m excited to hear how you like the book when you’re done reading it.

Interesting stuff. The “getting bigger” pose also works if you encounter a mountain lion. So . . . bonus, it can do double duty.

This is great, Jenny. I’d never heard of her before. Loved the Ted Talk. And I’m going to look into Presence as well (thanks, Kel!). I just did the Wonder Woman pose for a couple minutes and while I can’t say it has increased my testosterone and lowered my cortisol I can say my back feels better. 😉 Seriously though, I believe the body most definitely can change the mind and vice versa. Goes both ways. So from now on, I’ll be Wonder Womaning all over this town. Good stuff, thanks, Jenny!
