Hopped Up for National Coffee Day + Coffee DEALS!

Mondays are traditionally my favorite day here at More Cowbell, but today is truly special because America is celebrating my favorite beverage today: Glorious COFFEE.

I’ve got my t-shirt ready.

Here’s where you can get your free (or at least cheap) java jolt today!

Note: Some of you have caught on to this before now, because many of these places have been offering coffee specials for the last several days. This is for everyone hopping on the National Coffee Day training today.

Caribou Coffee is donating 10% of all Amy’s Blend coffee proceeds to CancerCare through October 31.

Dunkin’ Donuts: Free medium cup of Dark Roast Coffee today. This same size and brand will be $0.99 from September 30 to October 5.

Kangaroo Express Convenience Stores are offering 12 oz. cups of Bean Street Coffee for $0.01 today from 6-10 am.

Krispy Kreme is giving away free 12 oz. cups of coffee and offering $1 off all mochas, lattes and ice coffee – today only.

If you live in Colorado, Lamar’s Donuts is giving away free 12 oz. coffees today.

McDonald’s ends it’s two-week giveaway of one complimentary small coffee during breakfast hours.

Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. customers can get free hot or iced coffee today, with the purchase of any other menu item.

Peet’s Coffee is giving free samples of coffee and espresso away today. Additionally, they’re doing a buy-one-get-one-free promo and offering a $2 discount off bags of coffee.

Starbucks offered all kinds of deals and freebies last year, but the only thing I’ve discovered this year is a free shipping offer for any purchase $30 or more on their website.

And finally, for our Canadian friends, Tim Horton’s is selling any size for $1 through today. They gave donuts away on National Donut Day, but the coffee is just coming to you a bit cheaper.

So whether you drink regular, decaf or Bulletproof Coffee, today is the day to celebrate your hot cup o’ love. And if you don’t remember how important that beverage is, please refer to Clair’s story of how a “Cup o’ Joe made her man a Ho.”

If you’re feeling creative, here are 34 Unexpected Ways Coffee Grounds Can Make Your Life Better. After I drink the stuff, I put the grounds on my roses, tomatoes and blueberries, but I’m intrigued by several of the ideas on the list. Face masque, anyone?

Happy Monday, y’all…have a great day, whatever your beverage!

p.s. For those of you following my vertigo story, I am now three days without it, which is almost a record for the month. Keep crossing your fingers that the VRT (vestibular rehab therapy) is working! Thanks!!

What role does coffee play in my life? If you know me, you know we’ve had a long-time love affair. As a teen, it was how I got to swim practice, two HOURS before school started. In college, it kept me up nights, studying. Later, it opened my eyes before I got on the road for work.

Now that I’m retired, and getting creaky, it’s the morning oil can for the joints.

    Coffee fixes EVERYTHING!!!!

Shut the front door! Coffee helps with stiff joints?? The Hubs will rue that you told me that, since I already drink quite a bit of coffee.

National Coffee Day should dovetail nicely with National Insomnia Night.

  4. I drink Diet Dr. Pepper, so coffee plays no role at all. LOL wondered why McD’s was giving it away. Yes, I am clueless. LOL

  5. Yay for National Coffee Day! I feel like a junkie. That first sweet hit in the morning…..ahhhhh. Great news on the vertigo front!

  6. Ah yes, Jenny. As an Italian coffee was main-lined into my veins as a small child. First with lots of milk and sugar and then the real jolt of Italian espresso … often with a bit of sweet alcohol.

I have switched to decaf and I still can’t start any day without at least two cups, consume another four or six more during the day … and when I visit certain friends … look forward to high octane.

It is the elixir of the Gods 🙂

And my aunt taught me about the many ways to use coffee grinds when I was a girl.

PS: Glad that your vertigo is under control this week. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you !!

Ooooooh…that Italian coffee is some snazzy stuff, Florence. One of my favorites, although I can’t imagine liking coffee as a child. It didn’t really grow on me until my early 20’s.

The vertigo is middling this week. I still get dizzy if I look over my left shoulder and if I stand up or turn quickly but it’s so much better, I’m not going to complain. We can all keep our fingers crossed that it stays AWAY. Thanks, lovely.

  7. i detest coffee so I’m just going to shut up because I know people are going to start throwing rotten food at me.

I’m so glad you’re getting relief from the therapy for your vertigo. That stuff sucks.

LOL. I detested coffee until I was about 23 years old, so I understand completely Patricia. I hope you’re having a fantastic vacation!! You must have internet access on that ship because I see you keeping up.

If it’s the cruise up to Alaska and Canada, my hubs and I have looked at that one several times. I can’t wait to hear all about it. 🙂

      • Actually, I’m already back from my cruise. I had sporadic internet in Alaska and had to pay international roaming fees while I was in Canada so posts were limited. It was a blast and I encourage everyone to go to the Great White North at least once in their life. It was simply breath-taking.

Keep following my blog starting Monday as the posts will start coming up about my adventures.

  8. Hi Jenny! I’ve missed your updates lately, how is your hip? And now vertigo? UGH! I suffer from vertigo and it really is the worst.

I am not a coffee drinker at all (I know, I’m weird), when I need caffeine, I drink a Diet Coke. Coffee would be so much better for me but it’s one of my vices. 🙂

I’m about three weeks away from being doing with rehab for my hip. Wooo!! I can squat, get up and down and stretch my leg in nearly every direction. Now if I could just get back to jumping around….

The vertigo isn’t bad this week, but I’m still afraid it will be bad, which is stressful. But so far, it’s staying under control. The VRT is helping, I think, but I’m in the wait and see phase.

Laura Drake loves coffee, but she also loves Diet Coke. I don’t hate it, but I’d rather have a Diet Dr Pepper or a Fresca if I’m going to drink a diet soda. 🙂 I luuuuurve Fresca.

  9. Totally passionate about my java! I didn’t take advantage of the freebies, though. I took advantage of a shared day off with the hubs and made my own via my Keurig. 🙂

Mary and I met over coffee, and it still plays a huge part in our lives. I’m limited to decaf since the stroke, but I still drink plenty of it. I bought a Thermos travel mug that has a closable lid that I take with me everywhere. I tuck it in my jeans pocket when we’re leaving the house (one advantage of buying clothes at Omar the Tentmaker’s) and always have it with me.

Glad you’re doing better with your balance. One of the cats had the feline version of vestibular disease, and now walks around with her head tipped to one side. Adorable.

Awwwwww. I didn’t know that’s how you met your wife! That’s so sweet. I love hearing about you crazy lovebirds. Decaf, huh? I know my days for that will come, but I’m planning to hold out as long as possible. 🙂

I really want to see this lopsided cat. She sounds darling. Me, when my head is tilted and I have one eye closed? Not so much on the cute.

Forget the coffee. I’ve been missing More Cowbell. Although, I do miss coffee since I don’t drink it like I used to. But I have heard, from a reliable source, that Starbucks has a half price Happy Hour for Frappuccino in the afternoon. You’ll have to check that out. Glad your feeling better. 🙂

Thanks, Karen! I’ve been missing More Cowbell too. 🙂 It’s just been a really tough summer. But I love blogging too much to keep my craziness to myself. Things will be lighting up here this Fall. I promise.
