Periodically, newcomers venture here to More Cowbell, see the masthead and mistake the name of the site. This blog is named after an SNL skit where Christopher Walken and Will Farrell steal the show.
Catchy phrases like “I could’ve used a little more cowbell…” and “Really use your studio space…” vie with other gems like:
I’ve got a FEVER! And the only prescription is MORE COWBELL.
Christopher Walken utters every catchy phrase, and Will Farrell delivers the laughs. And if you get hold of the entire skit, you’ll see that Jimmy Fallon is trying not to bust a gut in the background.
If you’re still low on your Saturday Night Live quota for the day, here’s the Top 10 episodes of all time, according to WatchMojo.com.
Is More Cowbell included in this list of gems? Oh yeah. Watch to find out where we rank. 🙂
What is your favorite SNL episode? Is it in this montage, or is it something else entirely? Who is your favorite SNL actor of all time? Enquiring minds always want to know these things here at More Cowbell!

p.s. If you’re having trouble finding something to celebrate today, I’ve got a great one for you: 10 years ago, my future husband danced up to me in a bar called Woody’s Wharf…and the rest is history. [Happy Anniversary, Honey! 🙂 ]
So great, revisiting all those. Surprised not to see the land shark, or, “It’s a floor wax.” “No, it’s a dessert topping.” “No, wait, it’s both!”
Gilda Radner and my heartthrob, Chevy Chase (hey, so I have weird taste in men), and anything with Belushi and Ackroyd are my faves. I guess that dates me, but older SNL is better!

Land Shark! And don’t forget Roseann Roseannadana! I’m with you. first run SNL was the best! Coneheads, anyone?

I flippin’ LOVED Roseann Roseannadana! They’ll never make another like Gilda Radner. Never.
I know I’m a decade behind Laura, but older SNL was the very best. 🙂

Gilda ruled! And Jane Curtain….”you ignorant slut…” *s* SNL was terrific…don’t know about it now, just don’t watch anymore. *sigh*

Yep, nobody could call you out as a slut like Dan Ackroyd, right?

Sorry Jenny. These shows mean nothing to me but the story of your dating entertained me. I haven’t dated since the club was in use, and I don’t mean the night club.

Happy Anniversary, Jenny! I am always looking for a quick laugh, so thank you! How can you go wrong with SNL? 🙂

You simply can’t go wrong with SNL, although I do think they’ve lost a lot of their mojo from earlier days. They still spawn mega-stars left and right, don’t they?

This is true. It’s hard to follow the acts of icons like, Roseanne Roseannadana :), John Belushi, Chevy Chase & Eddie Murphy. In my recent post I featured a video from the Carol Burnett Show of a skit with Tim Conway and Harvey Korman. They were the best!!! 🙂

Whoohoo! More Cowbell rules! Okay, I have to say I have some favorites. I liked the Julia Child sketch where “she” cuts herself. (I’m dark that way.) And the big hip family when the daughter is dating the conehead and gets a fever (I did mention I’m very dark. LOL).
Happy anniversary!

Pauline, I had to go find that skit of Julia Child. Once I saw it was Dan Ackroyd. Well, I knew it was gonna slay me.

Hi Jenny.
Happy ten year proposal anniversary. I should be so lucky. Okay, you’re funnier than all get out and your husband and kids are lucky. You’re a Siren, luring us to the shores where we can laugh our a***s off.
Thanks, Tom

Thanks, Tom! And I’ll tell you, it took three years to get to the proposal part of the plan – my guy is the turtle in that story. But him dancing up to me was the luckiest moment of my life. 🙂

I never laughed so much as when Jane Curtin and Chevy Chase did Point Counterpoint. I haven’t watched much SNL in recent years, so my faves tend to be oldies, including Steve Martin and Dan Aykroyd as “Wild and Crazy Guys,” Gilda Radner’s Emily Litella and Roseanne Roseanna Danna, and yeah, the Cheeseburger Pepsi skit. Of course, when Steve Martin is still singing King Tut this many years later…that’s a keeper:
Thanks for the laugh!

I love that this video embedded, Julie. It meant I got to watch the magic right here. I always forget what an amazing banjo player Steve Martin is. That man is so talented.

Sooooooooooo much good stuff in this video and over the years on SNL. There were many years I didn’t watch a bit of it, but my faves have to be Roseanne Rosannadanna, Matt Foley “in a van down by the RIVER!” and Harry Caray’s very technical interview of a somewhat baffled Jeff Goldblum. Classics. But seriously, there’s so much awesome to choose from. Oh, and Kristen Wiig – just anything she does. 😉
Happy anniversary to you and your hubs!

Thanks, Kelly! And now I have to go find that interview with Jeff Goldblum because I’ve never seen it. I’ve gotta go get a Kristen Wiig fix too. 🙂

Jenny, I am a purist and love the original cast. Ditto what so many have said about Guilda and John … always loved the pair of John and Dan … and what about the Blues Brothers? Sad to think that two of that trio are gone.
I don’t know if I get the cowbell yet, but loved the throwback to the first nights of Saturday Night Live 🙂

No way! OMG it’s the best. Will Farrell is freakin’ brilliant and he totally catches Jeff off guard. It’s awesome. http://youtu.be/vrFUBKCONfs
Kristen Wiig as Judy Grimes… https://screen.yahoo.com/judy-grimes-just-kidding-again-000000343.html “I’m a steak, medium rare, just kiddng…”
How the hell does she talk so fast? Amazing.
You’re welcome. 😉

There are so many classic skits from SNL. Of course, More Cowbell is in that list. Always laughed at Jeopardy, Lonely Island, and any time Chris Walken was on it.

Oh, Jenny, this is a great flashback! I’d forgotten about Eddie Murphy, those gold Speedos and the hot tub. So many versions of Celebrity Jeopardy had me crying while laughing. Will had the crabby, snooty part of Alex Trebek down. RIP for the SNL Chippendales.
