W is for Wig Mania (Happening Next Week at #DFWCon)

Anyone who knows Tameri Etherton knows she’s very sparkly. Seriously, she’s funnier than hell and she lights up a room…especially when she’s wearing her hot pink wig.

Pink Wig - Tameri

We had a WANA gathering not so long ago where she brought that hot wig you see above. Not only did it make the rounds (almost everyone HAD to try it on), but she’s started a movement that has extended to next week’s DFW Writers Conference. (Click here to see more photos like the ones below.)

Gloria Richard has bought a cobalt blue one, and my (awesome, wonderful) friend Tameri has bought this magical thing for ME.  Squeeeee!

Tameri-PurpleWig

My hubby is gonna lose his mind when he sees me in this thing.🙂

Addendum: Tameri sent out a packing picture and I went shrieking around my house. Isn’t it GORGEOUS???

Do you have any fun wigs (or other costumes) we need to hear about? Where do you wear them? Are you going to the DFW Conference next week? If so, let’s talk about the party we need to plan for Saturday night! [All ideas accepted: Whether you’re attending the conference or not…you will be there in spirit.] Enquiring minds need to know these things here at More Cowbell!!

Jenny

Double Announcement! I had a blond week moment and forgot to give out the Cowbell bumper sticker last weekend, so tomorrow in the “X” post, I’ll award both weeks. Stay tuned…

The only wig I ever owned was a Hannah Montana wig that I wore for a VBS costume one time. I can’t even imagine what hot pink would look like on my head. Yikes!

    • We’ll find out how hot pink would look on your head at DFWCon, Julie. Smirk!

I haven’t yet ordered my Handerpants. Should I get one of those wig-undie things for you? Please respond soonest. The order must be placed today.

      • Oh man, I have that Hannah Montana wig around here somewhere. It was ghastly. These are much, much nicer, Julie! You’ll love it.

I got some under wig thingies for Jenny, but not the underwear one, those are a scream, Gloria! Can you imagine how funny they will look peeking out from under the wig? I’ll die laughing. Just D.I.E. if you wear it.🙂 God, I can’t wait for next weekend. Seriously.

Prepare to die laughing, Tameri. Gloria has also purchased a selection of books guaranteed to make her table the loudest at the conference. Sample title: How To Live with a Huge Penis. (Because we need to see those prayers, IYKWIM.)

Well, Julie since you’ll be trying on my purple wig, Lena’s green wig, Gloria’s cobalt one AND Tameri’s pink one, we’ll get to find out which color works best for you.🙂

I’ve never owned a wig. Mine would have to be purple.😉

I can’t wait for DFWCon. This will be my second year to go. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in person!

  5. Ha! I’m loving that gorgeous wig on you!😀 I gave away all my wigs (I had a lot, thanks to the amount of theatre I used to do), but I have a crown and a tiara I haven’t seen in almost a year. They’re buried (carefully) in storage until I resettle. While the crown is a bit over the top for everyday wear, I’m a firm believer that tiaras are suitable for most any occasion.🙂

  6. I used to have a purple wig for a Halloween costume and I loved that thing until it became a tangled mess. And when I was little I had a red one (for my Ariel costume) and I would wear it all the time. The last time I had a costume-y thing was a few years ago when I was ML for the local NaNoWriMo – I had a hair band with big flames coming from it (I was Katniss “the girl on fire” for Halloween that year) and I would wear it at all the write-ins so the newbies would know I was the one in charge. My minions wore hair bands with devil horns on them >:)

  7. Jenny, you slay me! That pic of me with your wig was never supposed to be shown in public. I’m in my workout clothes, no make up, for heaven’s sake. Whatever, it’s an awesome wig and you are totally going to rock it! This is going to be a blast. I’m bringing the light blue wig I got as a back up. Maybe Diana can wear it, or Nigel. My belly just filled with butterflies, sunshine, and glitter. I’m so freaking excited.

Thank you so much for the shout out. What a super fun post. You rock, my friend!

We should all be so lucky to look that breathtaking in workout clothes and no make-up. I had no idea…all I saw was that smile, those sparkly eyes and THE WIG. I can’t wait to touch it, IYKWIM…

I can’t wait for DFWcon! I’m so excited that so many WANAs are coming! I have two wigs, a short curly blonde one I wore as Dolly Parton and a crazy LONG blond one I wore as Rapunzel. It would be trailing out of my suitcase! I am not bringing these to DFWcon! LOL But at least it’ll be easy to find the WANA tables with you neon-colored ladies! Can’t wait to see what Nigel looks like in them!

  9. I can’t wait to see everyone at DFWcon!! Sadly, I don’t have any wigs or boas. What is wrong with me? But I can still party without! Trust me. LOL

I have no doubt that you can party anytime, anywhere, Tiff. Remember, I’ve heard your rebel yell.🙂

You’ll get to meet my guy this year (I’m almost 100% sure) and Gloria is making noises about Billy Bob’s…but if we do that, we miss out on chattering opportunities. Hmmmmm…

      • We don’t have to stay LONG, Jenny! Just long enough to get pics on The Bull. It’s not far from the convention center. An hour? An hour tops for us to climb on the bull and get pics — in our wigs. Cowboy hats are provided, but bringing my own.

    • Again, you are cracking me up. I’m not bringing all the tiaras because I don’t fancy getting strip searched, well maybe just a little, but not for this trip. Maybe when the woozy oozies are finished with me. I’d like to fully recall the experience when it happens.

Tameri (all woozy) at the airport: Would you like to see my bag, Occifer?

Hot TSA Dude: I’m gonna have to scan all these tiaras by hand, Ma’am.

Tameri: You scan whatever you want, darlin’. You can even touch my wigs, IYKWIM.

While I don’t utilize wigs, my daughter has started doing cosplay when she goes to anime cons, so we have a store house of wigs in our study. You can look here to see a couple of examples of her wigs and costumes. We have the rainbow wig for her Rainbow Dash costume, a short black one for the Ciel Phantomhive costume, then a long black one, a long red one, and a short purple one. I imagine the collection will continue to grow, because she’s always finding a new character she wants to portray. Fun!

As a male wig, is a word we don’t want to hear. “Baldness is sexy” Twaddle, that’s just nature and your genes getting back at you. Men want full, natural hair, just like the stuff in the Hair Club commercials.

You are some crazy ladies. Glad I still have my hair so no wigs or combovers are needed. I do have some old outfits from my past profession that I’ll keep a secret for now!

  14. I’ve never had a wig, but I used to be able to rat my hair well enough to look like Tina Turner from her “What’s Love Got To Do With It” days.😉 As for costumes…I once bought a French maid costume, but before I ever got to try it on a friend of mine lost a bet against another friend that required her to clean his apartment…I gave her the costume (and never asked for it back as it was one of THOSE French maid costumes).

  15. I keep meaning to go to DFW and then missing it. And I’m in the same state, too. My, er, costume confession involves steampunk. I wrote a bit of it a few years back and fell for the hats and the goggles. And I might have a corset or two around… grin.

    • Jenny Hansen says:

Ooooooo…I’ll bet you are just sassy in that corset, Pauline!

      Like

      • As long as I don’t try to control the muffin top, the corset works fine. Problems arise when I try to be 20 again. I’ve been married to a geologist for 38 years, but still sometimes forget about mass and pressure and gravity. I’m not sure why hats and goggles get me. I’m looking at those wigs, though. They’d look cool with a hat and a pair of goggles…
