Yep, they did that by HAND.
One of my very favorite things to do is go to the Selected Shorts performance at the Getty Museum. (Get your minds out of the gutter, it’s got nothing to do with pants.)
A few Saturdays back, we went as an early birthday present to the Hubster. For today’s A to Z post, I’m going to share it with you.
Our favorite way to take in the Selected Shorts is to make a whole day out of it.
Instead of just going to see the performance, we go to the museum first, look at their latest displays and visit my Illuminated Manuscripts. (Yes, I really call them that.)
The Illuminated Manuscripts are relics from the earliest books, often religious documents that have been preserved and put on display. These photos don’t remotely do them justice.

You see why I love it? Lucky for me, my hubby does too.
We tour the gardens, soak up the sunshine and just have an amazing day. Plus, we saw Leonard Nimoy and three other actors perform. Cracklesauce!

I never thought about the tapestries taking someone’s entire life. That’s an awe-inspring thought.

I don’t yet have a once-a-year thing-to-attend. Perhaps it will become DFWCon? But, that does not compare to the cultural MoJo (oxymoron?) of your annual trip to the Getty Museum.
Oh! Oh! I know. I do plan to make trips north to The Tap Root of my Wonky Tree no less than once a year. I feel so connected there. Maybe it’s the up-for-a-good-laugh relatives or sharing the roads with Mennonite buggies or the smell of cow manure. Whatever the root cause, it’s healingand a hoot to be there.
Simple life. Simple pleasures.
BTW, Jenny. THE Book arrived yesterday.
And, thanks from the bottom of my socks for Cracklesauce. It opened the door in my imagination to many other variations of Awesomesauce, so I don’t even have to ask to steal yours.

Once a year I’d trek to Lexington Kentucky in June to a gathering of Salukis (my breed of dog) for our National Specialty. My hubs would often go with and we would always both go to Lompoc for a gathering of Sighthounds and more importantly friends we’d made over many years of showing dogs. I’m working on new rituals.

Confession: I adore going to museums, but I have this little problem with wanting to touch everything. My fingers are itching to touch that lampshade, and the gorgeous page from that hymnal. I want to feel the ink and the thickness of the paper. I’ve been cautioned by
a coupleseveral security guards to step back from displays that are crying to be felt up. Displays that include textiles are the worst – and best – for me. 😉As for “once a year” things, I go on a yearly trip with my Ya-Yas, be it a day, a weekend, or a week – whatever we can manage that affords us the chance to spend more than just a few hours together, as we do monthly. The when and where vary, the content varies, the wine choices sometimes vary, but the communion doesn’t, the essence doesn’t.

Everyone should have some Ya-Yas. Where’s your fave place that all of you have gone together? My gals and I went to New Orleans several years back and stayed in a multi-room apartment attached to this studio call YAYA (stands for Young Aspirations/Young Artists). It was a beautiful place, although there are lots of stairs to climb.

Yup! That’s me! I almost felt bad for the guards at the Norman Rockwell museum. I mean, those paintings with their multiple layers of oils were right. there. 😀
Favorite place we’ve been is Prince Edward Island. We had a cottage at an inn on – get this – Memory Lane in Cavendish. It was a magical experience. Off to check out YAYA! 🙂

I don’t have a go-to place but I do enjoy visiting musuems, and like Ellen M. Greg up above I have to touch as well. When visitng New York’s Museum of Modern Art last summer I was given the verbal dress down about touching and also because I flashed the Egyptian exhibit – in photography that is. Great place, lots to see and my daughter loved it.

I have a once-a-year tradition with my best friend of us two going to the beach right before all of kids get out of school. It’s our last hoorah! I’ve yet to see Leonard Nimoy there, though.

I can’t believe Leonard Nimoy isn’t hanging out on the beaches of South Texas. That’s crazy talk! Your outing with your BFF sounds great. I’m ashamed to admit we are 5 miles from the beach and rarely go. I need to change that this summer. 🙂
