#ROW80 Update ~ A Plethora of Goals

This is my first ROW80 Update this round. Considering we started on October 1st, I’m just a wee bit behind!

ROW80 is the writing challenge that understands you have a life so I’m rolling with it. For more information about ROW80 and what it is, click here.

Several of my writing pals and I just started Fast Draft and those are the goals I have in front of me right now.  I’ll worry about my long-term goals LATER.

Below is my list of goals for the next 2-4 weeks:

* Getting ahead on blog posts
* Launching a Risky Baby Business (RBB) blog or column
* Finishing the content plan for that book and blog
* Pulling all of RBB into Scrivener
* Really nailing down all the features from my Scrivener class
* Finishing the review/macro reads that I’ve promised to various peeps

Plus I need to get a few classes up for WANA International. Things are starting to move full steam ahead on the teaching front.

I’m taking a page out of Gene Lempp‘s book and going week by week, rather than looking at the entire 80 days. I agree with him that you get more done that way.

If you want to participate in ROW80 or encourage your fellow ROW80 pals, click here. There is a linky there for you to add your post to this Sunday’s ROW80 blog hop. ROW80 is the perfect challenge to get your writing juices flowing, particularly now that NaNoWriMo is looming on the horizon.

What’s up with YOU on this fine Sunday? Are you chasing goals, or are you in a place where you’re having a hard time moving ahead? Do you participate in NaNoWriMo? Enquiring minds always want to know these things here at More Cowbell!

I’m using that approach with Crossfit. LOL…Hubby and I feel like elephants whenever we’re flailing around that gym but we do it one night at a time. 🙂 I’m trying to do the same with my writing goals.

  4. Goaling makes such a difference in what I accomplish, even if I don’t think I’m getting any of it done when I look at it later, I realize it wasn’t so bad. Sounds like you have a very busy week in front of you! Best of luck! Wait, you don’t need luck, you have goals!

Thanks, Jess…I’m hitting it today. My hope is that by including all my peripheral jobs, I still get to cross stuff off my list even if it’s not always the WIP. Thanks for your encouraging words!

I take my own goals week by week or even day by day. I can look ahead 80 days and think about what I would like to accomplish, but I need to break down the Big Picture into chunks I can face one at a time. Some ROWers can focus on that final number or words and just keep slugging away, but how they do that is a mystery to me.
    Good luck!

  6. Good luck on your goals and with FastDraft!
I also come up with goals week-by-week. My schedule changes a lot and it’s easier to keep up with weekly goals 😉
    See ya on FastDraft!
    Have a great week!

I just got my goals posted this morning too, I’m in good company. I’m liking your approach too, that Gene, he’s so wise. I’ve shifted my approach this round a bit. In past rounds I’ve done alright, but I stayed focused on the giant picture a little too much. I need to live for and enjoy today, concentrate on what I can do today with my writing and enjoy it. I might try NaNoWriMo this year, depends on how the plotting goes this month. Here’s to a fab round, enjoy your fast draft, and have a great week.

Looking great, Jenny! I am also basking in all of those Scrivener features and eager to sift through them again and incorporate what I learned into my writing. My BIG goal this round is to rewrite my novel and get it to beta readers. Even if none of my other goals got completed (although I really want to do them), I would call the round a success if I got the rewrite done. Best wishes with Fast Draft and all of your other plans!

Maybe I should try planning a couple weeks in advance rather than once for the whole quarter. That sounds like it might work better, and fits more with the spirit of the whole challenge. I think you’re on to something.

John, I’ve noticed that I lose focus when I do it the other way. I’m kind of an A.D.D. writers and I think I’m not working with my stregths by trying to do the long-range goals the way I’ve been doing it.

Here’s hoping this way works! For both of us…

  19. Weekly goals sound really doable. I can’t wait to see the Risky Baby Business blog and get more glimpses of what your book will be like 🙂 Thanks for the reminder about Scrivener. Good tools make any work so much easier.
