A Plethora of Amazing Links That Rocked My World

Orcas Island, sunset, San Juan, Island

Can you feel the peace?

After spending over a week in the Pacific Northwest, I had  to use the word “plethora” in a post. Amazing, lush, and magical are all words I’d use to describe Orcas Island, WA (see left) . I loved it, and I promise to blog about it in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, here’s some magic I’ve been gathering for you over the last several weeks. Happy Techie Tuesday, y’all!

I sure missed you. 🙂

Mash-up Magic

After being offline for a week, the first place I ran was to the blogs below. I knew that Gene Lempp, Roni Loren, Reetta Raitanen and SJ Maylee would get me caught up quickly.

Below are links to their latest mash-ups. I promise they are magic.

p.s. I’ve been sitting in on Kristen Lamb’s Blogging To Build A Brand class for the last month. Not only does she have some new tricks up her sleeve (can anyone say “high concept blogging?), she also has an outstanding crop of new bloggers in there. I love watching the fear subside as the blogosphere unfolds for these people. This mash-up is dedicated to them.

Superstar Magic

Nora Ephron had such a creative impact on me, and I’m sure many of you feel the same. CNN did a bang-up job on her obituary. Feel free to share your fave movie of hers with us in the comments – I’d love to hear about it.

Richard Godwin’s Interview with Les Edgerton (one of my fave people) was one of the best author interviews I’ve read EVER.

Blogging & Funny Magic

I don’t know if you read Natalie Hartford’s post on spam yesterday, but it was a scream and so were her comments. As you know, I visit my spam whenever I need a little sunshine blown up my writer’s booty. My favorite (so far) is the guy who offered “3 cows for me.”

That being said, I get a LOT less spam these days since I changed up a few things here at More Cowbell and Writers In The Storm. Here are 5 Ways To Combat Spam if it doesn’t give you that same pick-me-up that Nat and I experience.

Along these lines, I always learn seriously nifty tips from Carrie Spencer’s Woodie Knows WordPress posts.

Finally, one of my pals in Kristen Lamb’s #WANA612 blogging class tweeted this link on Humor for Writers. Love it!

Social Media Magic

Writing & Publishing Magic

Pure Magic

I honestly didn’t know how else to categorize this….

I’ve been madly in love with http://undergroundnewyorkpubliclibrary.com/ ever since a tweet from @JoeFinder referenced this Wall Street Journal article. Prepare to spend at least 15 minutes here. If you’re a reader, you won’t be able to help yourself.

What links have rocked YOUR world this week? Why did the post stand out to you? Where do you go to catch up after being away from your computer? Is being offline a relief or do you miss your online pals? Enquirining minds always  want to know these things here at More Cowbell!

I’ve been on the fence for a while with Pinterest because I know it’s a shiny new time-sucking toy that I would love. 🙂

Let me know what rocks your world when you get started over there, OK?

  5. Welcome home, girl. Gene’s mash-ups are such a treat! Thank you for introducing me to some other folks who have great ones, and for reminding me that i have been lax in the linky-love department. I need to get on that again. Gene once tried to tell me how he keeps everything straight. I think I need a refresher. Those mash-ups take me hours to put together.

Yes, but where the four amazing peeps up top do it every week or two, I’m lucky to get one out every month. I nearly always do, but like you, I feel a bit guilty that it isn’t more since I learn so much from my online pals. 🙂

So glad to hear you had a great vacation with your family Jenny! Orcas Island is a beautiful place. Hope you had good weather. Welcome back!
I too was affected by the death of Nora Ephron. More than I thought. She was so talented. I loved her sense of humor. Loved “When Harry met Sally”, “Sleepless in Seattle”, “Devil Wears Prada”, and “Julie/Julia.” She’ll be really missed. As far as the word plethora, Reetta Raitanen always includes a scrumptous feast of writing posts and then of course you never can go wrong with Gene Lempp. And then there’s you of course! 🙂

I loved every single one of those movies. She did humor so well. I die laughing over the whole Affair to Remember thing in “Sleepless” – that and the tirimisu thing are two of the most creative bits in the whole more.

And I don’t even hold Mash-up Acolyte status next to those two, but I do believe in spreading the love around at least once a month. 🙂

That photo of Orcas Island is gorgeous. I’ve never been there, but that makes me want to go! Great use of the word “plethora!” What a wonderful mashup. Thanks so much!

As far as what I do to catchup when I’ve been offline? You’re clowning, right? There’s no such thing as “catchup” but I do believe in Santa! When I’m offline, I always miss my pals, but I’m never caught up even when I’ve been online, so being away and knowing I’ve missed some really great stuff makes me feel weally, weally sad. 😦

    Welcome back!

LOL…I believe in Santa too. And in reality I’m always behind. But it’s great to see the blogosphere alive and well every time I return. I always find several must-reads in the mashups listed above. 🙂

Thanks for the welcome! You made me laugh with the PANTS GAME while I was gone.

Thanks, Jenny, for all the #wana612 love and support. I’ve been diving into all the links you’ve got here. I have to admit that offline is not as much fun as it used to be, although a break every so often can’t be too bad. Nah, who am I kidding….I’m freaking out about being away from the PC for 10 days. LOL.

  16. Thank you so much for the link love, Jenny. I loved your mashup and I hadn’t spotted many of these links. The trailer and Pinterest links are the first ones I will check.

No matter how many mashups are out there, it’s always worth it to create your own. We all have our own unique perspective and interests and it affects which links we feature. With so many great sites out there, it’s impossible for one person to cover them all.
