I used up all my “Thoughty Thursday” energy in Tuesday’s post about The Worry of the Artist.
Your comments were AMAZING. I can always count on the More Cowbell Posse to make me think and keep me smiling. Even when I’m sick.
As I write this with a sore throat and double ear infection, I’ve decided to walk on the lighter side with Thoughty Thursday this week. I think you’re going to like it. 🙂
A little background…
I freaking love LMFAO’s music, particularly their Party Rock Anthem and “Sexy and I Know It” (shown below). These guys are talented and irreverent and don’t really care that they’re swinging their “business” around for the world to see.
I like a guy with moxie and these guys have it in spades. Plus, all of you who’ve danced with me at ROW80 parties know how much I LOVE to get my groovy on.
Here’s the LMFAO video so you can laugh and dance around your house for a few minutes.
Note: The video will might give you a warning for “explicit” content but there is no nudity. This is a family blog *if you know what I mean*!
Now, shampoo your mind for a moment, then listen to this version of “Sexy and I Know It.” It’s so completely different, it’s not even the same song.
The most interesting thing to me about these two videos?
None of these guy’s voices match their face, and I liked the contrast. I couldn’t really pick a clear favorite, so I’m turning the floor over to you.
Which one do YOU like better and why? Enquiring minds always want to know these things here at More Cowbell!
Jenny
TWO Announcements:
#1 – Tomorrow’s big news announcement at Kristen Lamb’s blog has been postponed to Monday due to technical difficulties (beyond Kristen’s control). Don’t you just hate that?? Y’all have to wait until Monday for the big unveiling. *evil laugh*
#2 – Tomorrow is a “Pimp or Promote” Friday here at More Cowbell! Come prepared with something you’re excited about for yourself and would like to promote (news, books, blog, whatever). OR you can shamelessly pimp out somebody else. I can’t wait to see who and what you pick!
Hey Jenny, great to have a lighthearted post! Wow, what a contrast 🙂 My preference was the second one purely on account of the voice! Also, it could be just me, but the LMFAO video wouldn’t play on your page. YouTube seems to be requiring a sign in on account of ‘explicit’ content…

Alarna, if you just agree, you’ll go past that. No login required, I promise. 🙂 There’s also a button in the lower right of each video that say’s “YouTube” that will take you to the app to play it there if you have problems. Trust me, you MUST see these boys swing their stuff.

On the topic of technical difficulties beyond her control…
I can’t vote because Huey P Ackard refuses to spew forth sound on some videos, and your clips were on his list.
Apparently my “get well” vibes didn’t have the correct GPS coordinates when I pinged them off the stars over Texas to SoCal. Resent.

Gloria, I’ll be delighted when you trade Huey in. He keeps giving you fits!
The “Get Well” vibes all got flushed down the potty by the Allergy Monster. Apparently they’re trimming the eucalyptus trees at the end of our street. While that delights me, I’m allergic to eucalyptus…

Awesome Post Jenny… sorry to hear you’re sick. I liked reading your words and visiting with the videos. Both cool in their own right. I think the bigger idea here is who thinks who is actually sexy. Like you say about the faces not matching the voices. I think there are many pots out there with mismatched lids… because what’s sexy to one isn’t always sexy to another. Feel better.

The honest truth? I don’t think ANY of these guys are sexy. But Noah’s voice is smokin’ and LMFAO makes it impossible to not have a great time on the dance floor. 🙂

would never guess they’re the same song. wow. personally i prefer the second version – he’s got a great voice.

He does have a great voice. I’ll confess that I’ve got to be in the mood for the first one, whereas the second one I could listen to anytime. That’s as close as I’m coming to biasing the results. LOL…

Oh, noooo….Jenny! A sore throat and double-ear infection! Holy crap, girl! You didn’t sound so good when we talked this week, but dang, I know you were hoping you were getting over it rather than it getting worse. (I was hoping, too). So sorry, hunny. Hang in there!
As far as the song, I ran across the acoustic version last week and LOVED it. The original is good in small doses, but ….
Anyway, here’s a version that Baby Girl could listen to: “I’m Elmo and I Know It” (“Kids look at these crayons…I make A-R-T.” LOL!) http://youtu.be/RWF86D_UNxc

Oh my goodness…I totally cracked up at the Elmo version! I can’t wait for her to see it…she’s gonna flip. (She’s sick too, though not as bad as me. Anything that makes her happy right now is WONDERFUL.)

Oh my goodness…I think you burned my eyes out with that first video, LOL. And I haven’t even had my first cup of coffee yet! That video screams “have fun.” It’s a dance, a party, a mucking about song..
The second one…that one is sexy to me. His voice just curls around the listener. Thanks for pointing him out. I’m off to check out his FB page 🙂
Feel better soon Jenny!!!

I haven’t had coffee yet either – it’s the one thing I don’t have any taste for when I’m sick. I did choke on my beverage the first time I saw that video. It’s the *wiggle wiggle wiggle* that kills me. 🙂
And you’re right – Noah has a rare and wonderful talent.
LikeLike
LMAO *wiggle wiggle wiggle* Yeah! Thanks for sharing.
The versions are vastly different. I like the second one better too since I like the guy’s voice. The version is also a little more repeatable in other moods than grooving.
And Pimp and Promote Fridays are a such great idea. I’ll pick something cool to promote for tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing what you pick, Reeta! And, yes, it’s the “wiggle” that gets me too. (Not to mention the “waggle” in the video.)

LMFAO’s version is fun, but…. Noah’s acoustic version is gutsy, bluesy and full of soul. Wow.
Feel better, Jenny!

Thanks, Sherry – I love the description! Can you believe this kid is just 18 years old??

I prefer the second one. Sexy, for me, isn’t about being an exhibitionist or vulgar. 🙂

You go, Lisa! Yep, I don’t know how much of the comments you’re reading, but I actually don’t find a single one of these dudes sexy. I could listen to their songs often though. 🙂

Jenny. Honestly. Flopping junk before 8 am? You’re killing me. Number 2 gets my vote. Who would guess that pudgy little kid could sing like that?!!! Glad you’re feeling a bit better.

OMG, stop making me laugh! Now I’m coughing. Yep…this flopping junk posted at 3 am local time. A nice eye-popping wake-up for my peeps!!

Oh dang…I LOVE BOTH! I love the original LMFAO because it makes me want to get up and dance, rock out, and bust a move. And I love the spirit and enthusiasm of knowing sexy is all attitude and belief…rocks! I love video 2 because the voice and mix-up of the song is STELLAR!! OMG…that voice…ahhhhmazing!! I could listen to it over and over again. So one makes me want to dance…and one makes me want to sing along…win win baby!
So for me…it’s a tie!

I do like Party Rock Anthem better than this song but LMFAO is a definite “happy dance band.” When I heard Noah’s cover, my jaw dropped. It’s an entirely different song the way he does it.
Hope you danced around your cubicle at work. 🙂

Jenny, so funny. I’d vote for the second guy. Goes to show you, sexy is in the eyes of the beholder …or not. 🙂 Reminds of seeing very old Charles Bronson films. The guy was really ugly but women loved him! He must have had a certain “something.” I never saw it even though I’m not a pretty boy fan. Get well fast!

Thanks! I’m trying to stay home and keep my germs away from everybody right now. 🙂
p.s. I don’t get the allure of Charles Bronson either…

I like both versions. However, I have a thing for sexy guy voices. (Did a whole post on it! http://julieglover.com/2012/02/17/swooning-just-a-bit/) So I’m voting for #2! I love that take on the song and his awesome voice.
Get better soon! Sad that you feel sick.

Oh god, both. That was so awesome. It’s 5.30am and I’m supposed to be editing my MS but I sure had a good laugh. The second guy is an angel though. Loved it all.

I like them both. The first, mostly because it’s shot along the ocean in LA (the most beautiful place on earth, IMO) and because, I swear, Ron Jeremy’s in it. The second because the guy has taken something from one genre and done it his way, kind of like Richard Thompson doing “Oops I Did It Again” (http://youtu.be/V4WGsMplGxU).
LikeLike
You win the prize, John! Ron Jeremy IS in the video. There’s a behind the scenes version on YouTube that he narrates but I didn’t want to freak out the crowd. I’m going to have to follow that link to see what Richard Thompson is up to. Thanks!

Okay. I loathe the first one. No offense, but that style of music is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. That second one, I’d buy that and listen to it over and over again on my iPod. In fact, I found where he’s offering it for download for FREE. What an amazing voice. 😀
Now the why: The first version is like being in a noisy room with people shouting at each other and a bunch of dogs barking in the background. It makes me tense because I can’t even think. And if I can’t think, I can’t act quickly if I need to. Now, when I listen to Noah (the second guy) not only do my thoughts fully form, I relax. I can think. I feel like I have room to breathe. I can smell the rain on the air and appreciate what’s good in the world.

LOL…no offense taken, Catie! I love knowing how y’all perceive these things. It’s funny, I can’t listen to the LMFAO version more than once without turning it off the second time. But Noah’s version? I could listen to it all day long. 🙂
BTW, I love your last sentence above. It’s beautiful.

My little niece Isabelle loves LMFAO. When “Party Rock” ” comes on, she’s glued to the TV and head bopping and shuffling along:) I like both versions but the cover doesn’t sound remotely like the original! He has a very sexy voice.

I think ALL the little kids like LMFAO – they have a fast jumpy beat and it gets ’em revved up. 🙂

I do think LMFAO is funny, but I love the second video. his voice is awesome and he arranged it so well! His sound is more to my liking. I hope he makes it big one day!
Having a light day when you’re sick is the right thing to do, Jenny. Hope you get feeling better soon.
Coincidentally, the blogosphere is in sync again for Friday as I’m also doing a Pimp or Promote day and my own announcement, along with a few writerly tips.
Now go sleep til you’re well!

Dude, I love that second one. I hate the first one but my kidlet likes it, he sings “I’m Elmo and I Know It” because there’s an Elmo version on YouTube as well.

I don’t care much for that LMFAO song ever since I saw them perform it live. The second one’s style and voice was pleasant. I just may have to take you up on your offer and promote a friend’s debut novel. (I’m thrilled for her!!) Last but not least, please take care and feel better soon.

I can’t wait to hear all about your friend’s novel. You must be so thrilled for her!
On the sickie front, I’m on antibiotics now so I should be better soon. I hate taking them but sometimes you just have to.

It’s so funny that you should say that! Hubby and I have been having a hard time finding many options for gluten free chicken soup. Rice and GF pasta are permissable but very few vendors sell it.

Looks like the second guy is winning. The first one is hilarious, once through, because it pokes fun at the guys who strut their stuff in a blatant disgusting manner, but I personally would not bother listening to it again (actually watching it, because it’s pretty awful just to listen to that grating repetition). The second one – well that guy’s voice is amazing and I have to find more of his stuff.

Ann, (Noah) the second guy is WAY winning. I don’t think we have a ton of 80’s Dance people here at More Cowbell! And, let’s face it, Noah just flat out has a better voice.

Ah. This might be why I like LMFAO better. I’m totally a child of the 80’s.

It’s like comparing apples & oranges. The first guys are like “Weird Al Yankovich” hard to take seriously, but talented and funny. Noah is more like John Mayer, he could sing the phone book, & it might be interesting. ejw

Wow, I don’t know if I can pick a favorite either. I adore LMFAO way more than I probably should, but that second guy’s voice is darn sexy in and of itself.
I’m going to have to go with LMFAO just for the hilarity factor. Those guys have huge huevos, if you know what I mean!
