Valentine’s week was filled with love. There were groovy links and cool stories floating all over the blogosphere. I’ve been smiling about them all week long. I even contributed my own true, sad, funny tale with “Get Off Me!”
Amongst this plethora of funny, quirky stories, my favorite was K.B. Owen’s “Foibles.” Click the link…I guarantee you’ll say, “Awwwwwww.”
Last but not least on the LOVE front, I kicked off Round 2 of the Dirty Fighting Contest! I’ve summarized the rules below, just to make your life easier. I hope y’all decide to enter – it’s free and it’s fun.
Heck, add it to your ROW80 goals this month – you’ll learn how to Dirty Fight like a champ AND beef up the tension in your work in progress.
Dirty Fighting Contest Rules
Between now and midnight on St. Paddy’s Day, if you send me the following, I will work with my NakedEditor pal, Tiffany Lawson Inman, to pick the Top 3.
All three winning entries will be posted on More Cowbell. NakedEditor with provide suggestions for the 2nd and 3rd place winners and with do a full scene dissection for the 1st place winner. (Have you SEEN her dissections?? This is gonna ROCK!)
- Send a short scene, maximum 300 words to JennyHansensMail (AT) aol (DOT) com.
- Your scene may contain a sentence at the top telling us what the fight is about though it will be included in your wordcount. (We really just want the fight. )
- Your entry must illustrate one or more of the classic Dirty Fighting techniques. If you choose to name the technique(s) you are going for by number (list of all 23), this will not detract from your count.
- ROW80 Sponsor: I rocked my sponsorship duties last weekend, visiting all of the people I was supposed to and a few more just because I like ’em. Not so much on Wednesday. That day, I was pretty much in my bed, feeling like crap. I’m gonna be a busy little sponsor today… Can’t wait!
- Exercise: In the last two days, I’ve walked 7 miles, several of them up hills pushing 30 pounds of baby and stroller. (Yep, I’m sore.) I’m hoping to do a bit more today. Walking to and from meals and finding a walking buddy seems to be the way I’m going to have to go. I just don’t seem to get the exercise done when I do it on my own.
- Reading: I’ve read a few books this week and I’m enjoying keeping that momentum going. These were shorter books and a novella so I didn’t have to give us much time for them. The reading is really helping me stay excited about the world. Plus, ever since I added 2 hours of reading (minimum) a week into my goals, I actually take time for it.
- Blogging: I’ve been blogging my a$$ off. 3-4 fun posts + a post targeted toward my WIP seem to be the sweet spot for me. Plus, I had Margie Lawson here this last week for a guest post on writing visceral responses. She’s amazing!
- Work in Progress: The posts I do toward my WIP are really getting my research done for me, which is nice. Plus I’m writing a post on memoir for Nicole Basaraba’s genre series that’s really helping me fine-tune the structure of this book. It’s been extraordinarily helpful to lay it all out like this. I’ve only written one new scene this week, but I feel like I’ve moved light years ahead. (Thanks, Nicole!)
If you’d like to encourage your ROW80 Team mates, go here and click on the Linky. You can add your name and blog hop around to say hi to everybody else.
How is your week going? Are you making progress, or at least enjoying yourself? Have you participated in any of the writing sprints happening at the #ROW80 hashtag? I’d love to hear how things are going for you!
Jenny
Dang girl YOU are rocking it this week. Wow all that blogging and I sooo know what its like to get the WIP organized. Makes a world of difference. So glad that my tasking you with writing a guest post could help. 🙂 *big smile*. I have to say I think you’re my hero pushing a 30 pound stroller up a hill. Keep on trucking you’re doing excellent.

It’s that chunky-hunky baby that adds all the weight to the stroller. It’s a good thing she’s cute. 🙂
Yep, I appreciate your guest post mission – it’s opening some doors in my mind. THANK YOU!

Thanks, Audrey! It’s never as much as we hoped, but it’s more than I’d have accomplished before I started being accountable for it. I LOVE ROW80!!

Ditto what Nicole and Audrey said on ROCKING the Row, this week. Jenny.
DRAT! What a week to miss out on your posts. With inconsistent (mostly non-existent) internet service, I did NOT get my Jenny JoJo Juice of a read most days this week. But, I bounced back a “liked” them. Does that count? And, the V-Day “Get off of me” story about Hopeful and Clueless? A stitch of a read.
I may brave the waves and put myself out there today on ROW80. I’ll be the one with wet hair plastered to her head, wild-eyed where-are-my-oars-when-I-need-them look, and an extra layer of blubber around the middle that is NOT a floating aid.
Is it too early to say, “Cheers! To next week!?” Hope not, because that’s where I’m headed. I know my oars await me there.

You’re the sweetest, Gloria! I’m delighted you enjoyed “Get off me!” Oh, and BTW, I’ve seen you and you don’t remotely have blubber around the middle, unless you put up a fake-o picture. I’m just sayin…
Hope your computer is better this next week. We miss you!

Great week lady fantabulous! I think the stroller walking partner is a great idea, combines cardio with strength resistance training.
Have a super week, Jen 🙂

Yep, we’ve got some hills near me and evidently I’m going to be tackling them with the baby. As long as I fasten an extra klutz strap to me so she doesn’t go flying away from me, it’ll all be groovy. 🙂

You are always on top of it all Jenny, brilliant! I know it shouldn’t but it does make me laugh when I read of so many of us being unwell at the same time for the same check-in’s – it’s like we are all so connected in some weird way that we share up’s and down’s in more than just writing our check-ins!! lol

Boy, I have you fooled, Sharon! I’m not remotely on top of it. But I try as hard as I possibly can. 🙂

Thank you SO much for the kind words and shout out! I’ll have to pass that along to hubby. 😀

You’ve had a fantastic week!! I envy your ability to exercise and with the stroller!! I think I have the packing blues and don’t see getting much extra exercise in until we move. (I hurt all over as it is lol!) Glad that your reading goal seems to be helping. I have noticed the same improvement since adding mine. I grab my Nook when I’m ready to sit down for the night and read until I fall asleep and love it! Hope you have a great week and looking forward to your post for Nicole’s series!

Lauren, I HATE to pack and move. It is by far one of my least fave tasks and I feel for you. Let us know when it is behind you. 🙂

Kicking butt and taking names girl. I love it! My week may not have had an impressive word count but I feel like I am working out the kinks and narrowing down the issue, which will help me going forward. That is half the battle so I am happy to be in the trenches working it out. I’ll keep at this week and super pumped to start drafting my dirty fighting entry…squeeee!!!
Happy week ahead…

Fantastic job this week, Jenny! I love this new reading goal that you’ve added. I took Thursday and did nothing but devour a couple of books, and now I feel SO much better than I have over the last couple of weeks, when reading fell by the wayside.
Have a wonderful week to come!
