The Slacker Train Is Chugging Toward The Station…

I slacked so hard this week, I couldn’t even catch up to the #NaNoSlackMo train! I was just huffing and puffing along the track, getting distracted by the pretty twinkle lights off in the distance.

It’s a good thing that ROW80 is the writing challenge that knows you have a life…otherwise, I’d be sunk right now.

You saw from my post last Thursday that I’m not very organized this holiday season… *sigh* All right, all RIGHT…I’m not all that organized for any season. But this is the time of year for holiday cards and reaching out and spreading the love and I’m, um, a little behind.

All I’ve done is decorate the tree, write some blog posts, and make some smokin’ pies. I’ve gotta step it up a little! By the time you read this, I should be elbow-deep in candy-making. The fudge and the almond roca should be cooling about now. If I get really ambitious, I’ll make some cookies.

What are you doing on this fine Sunday before Christmas and Hannukah?? Enquiring minds always want to know here at More Cowbell!

OK, the cookies didn’t happen but the almond roca is looking so stupendous, I have to do a post on it tomorrow! Especially since I had a catastrophe to batch two that should be shared. 🙂

Ooh, Almond Roca…I LOVE almond roca! You can MAKE that??!! You are ah-mazing, Jenny. 🙂

Yesterday, I got a little caught up on fudge – mocha fudge and white chocolate peppermint fudge – but the butter cookie dough I’d made ahead of time I couldn’t spritz because my 20+yr-old battery-operated cookie spritzer died. My mom had given it to me on my first married Christmas. Sigh.

I’m walking Burke Lake this am with hubs and a friend of ours (4.6 miles) – it’s been a while, wish me luck…brr!!! If I still have breath left in my body, I’ll be spritzing, rolling, cutting…colored sugar and jimmies will fly! (There will probably be more on the floor than on the cookies, especially if my boys help decorate them, lol).

    Happy Sunday!

  5. I think you’re doing a great job. Me? We finally put up our tree last night, and today I’m going to attempt to make cookies and peppermint bark. Then the cards. Yes, I’m a bit late, too. It’s going to be a fun weekend. Have fun with the almond roca and cookie decorating!

  8. You are a kitchen Goddess. I am so jealous – it all sounds sooo tasty! If we lived closer, I’d be swinging by for a coffee and a taste test. LOL!
I’ve totally joined you in Slack Land. I’ve had a busy week before Christmas with baking, decorating, wrapping, and getting stuff done. Today, I am off to do some bread and cookies baking with Mom and my aunt…and then more visiting and cookie swapping with friends this evening. Oh well…tis the season and we must enjoy!
Happy HOLIDAYS! Enjoy your fahhbulous goodies! 🙂

I’m so glad you’re having such a great week. I didn’t get my act together enough to make bread this year, but I know my ass is grass if I don’t make roca so that is now DONE.

  9. Pies, candy and tree-decorating? Sounds pretty good to me! My tree is still not up!! LOL guess what I’m doing today? I did get other decorating done, and send out my cards yesterday, plus finished shopping. Now the wrapping begins. My writing goals weren’t so steady either, so it’s good to know I have company. I’ve hit my goals for the past couple of weeks mainly because one thing I learned from this challenge is what I can realistically do in a week, with whatever else is going on. Have a great holiday, and jump back in on the ROW in January!

See, Jeanette, I know this post guilted you into putting up a fantastic tree. 🙂

I’ll bet your house looks ah-mazing!!! Thanks for stopping in – have a great holiday.

  10. My boys and I will dip chocolate covered pretzels today. They made snowmen cookies yesterday and cut and colored their gift tags for the gifts they will wrap….ummm…later today? (I have to buy scotch tape!) I’m ready to turn on my Christmas channel on Pandora Radio and let the fun begin!

    Have a great Christmas, Jenny.

Wow, almond roca! Delicious & it sounds hard to make. My Sunday consists of writing, tea with a friend, & a poker lesson from my dad. Good day.

  13. This is the Christmas where we did very little decorating. I’m not a “bah humbug” person completely – but since it’s just the 2 of us, I really detest dragging all of the ornaments and tree out for nobody else to see.

Though we have gone through the annual “argue over when will my parents let us know if they will be staying at our house or just spend the entire 2 days over at my sisters because she’s the one with the grand-kids” argument.

Which is to say – I think next year on Row80 that ends on Christmas -we should all just say the goal is to write 1 word a day on our WIP so that anything else in regards to writing/publishing is just gravy :).

As for Christmas, I got done with shopping yesterday and still haven’t decorated my house (and by now I think I won’t since I’ll be leaving soon to spend the holidays at my parents).
Have a great #slacking week LOL

  17. My husband looked at me yesterday and asked if I realized Christmas was a week away. I’ve been in panic mode ever since. Gotta go shopping, do cards, baking, make nice with the neighbors so they’ll watch the dog. . . ah.

Or let’s just have some wine?

You’re not alone dear friend. I’m the queen of slack for this quarter but I took some time to think seriously about what I wanted to accomplish in 2012 and I am hopeful the slack will tighten.

I’m slacking my butt off. Any word counts I set are gone. Xmas I’m home alone and writing. I know what I’m getting for Xmas.(I bought it). Make dinner for myself and veg in front of the tube. A given as you get on in years is that the number of people around you shrinks. At least I’ve got myself.

  21. Whoo-hoo! I think trains are swell and have hopped aboard yours to be the gal shouting out stops. I can be resident holiday treat sampler as well. 🙂 Since I’ve only purchased 1/3 of the gifts I need to (hello online shipping deals), have no side dishes yet in mind and haven’t started playing my holiday music yet (is it December?), I have so earned my seat on the train. At least, I do have a tree and wreath up now. Go holiday slackers!

  22. Your posts always make me smile, Jenny. You’re #slacking right along with the rest of us. I did the photo cards, got the tree up and decorated over the weekend, and iced the cookies tonight. Now all i want for Christmas is to write every day, and get another 10K in before New Years. Then I’ll be on track (get it) with my progress with last year’s book.

I hope to get going full-speed ahead by mid-January to April. Hope you do too! #nanoslackmo baby. 🙂

  23. Obviously I’m on the slacker train… here it is Monday night and I’m finally reading your post from yesterday. Ugh. One of these days I’ll be so far behind that you’ll catch up and then I might be in the game again. Or not.

Those pies and that candy sound delish. I suppose we should get some baking done around her, eh?

I’ve been a slacker, too, but even in my slacking I’ve managed to accomplish more this year than in years past thanks to my wonderful new writing community. You’ve been a great part of that, too. Thanks for all your support and sharing your knowledge in 2011. Looking forward to more sharing and fun in 2012. Happy Holidays!
