#ROW80 Check-in: I’m B-a-a-ack!

Not to be “shining” at y’all with that title, but I’m so happy to be upright and rarin’ to go that I had to participate in a ROW80 Check-in today!

November has been a blur of colds, flu and pleurisy at the Hansen House – I’ve had all three. Wheeeee, what a fun time!!

Have I won NaNoWriMo? Nope.
Have I finished my WIP? Nope.
Have I checked inย weekly this month? Nope.

And you know what? I don’t care.

The beauty of ROW80 is that I can start from today and still feel like I can achieve goals for this round. I’m going to download me a little word counting widget and keep on my NaNo goal into December. I want to finish this damn memoir, pleurisy and all.

What about you? What is your current goal? How are you doing with it? To encourage all your ROW80 teammates, click here.

p.s. Lena Corazon and Gene Lempp have won NaNo!!! Everyone give them a click and congratulate the hell out of them. I’m so excited!!! Who else has won? Let us know in the comments. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I’m sooo glad I’m not the only one who….may I use the word “slacking”? I haven’t touched my WIP in practically 3 weeks. Opps. Maybe I jump on the Jenny train and write my fingers off until December. Although, I’m going to Paris for 4 days and then I’m totally into Christmas. Hopefully I can kick myself into gear. I have 25,000 words left to reach my goal.

Ooh, pleurisy? Sounds painful. Glad you’re feeling better and back on the beat. I’m determined to finish the rewrite of my YA paranormal BEFORE my birthday on Dec. 12th. (Then again, I was determined to finish it before November was out so I could start querying and not bump into all the NaNoWriMo writers who start querying in December. Oops.)

Here’s to fast fingers and pain-free everything.

Pleurisy feels like somebody kicked you in the chest and the back at the same time. BUT, I’m feeling much better and I’m totally digging the idea of writing my face off through December. Happy birthday, you sweet Saggitarius, you!

And where would you have been if you hadn’t signed up for NaNo? Less words on the page, I’d wager. You ARE a winner, Jenny – you survived the month!

Now, stop reading here, and go finish! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Eeek! Sorry to hear about your illnesses, there’s nothing worse than trying to be productive when you just want to curl up until you’re better. ROW80 is awesome for allowing you to just pick yourself up and keep going again when you have not-so-good days; good luck for the rest of the round ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Ignore Laura, Jenny. (Waving Hi! to Laura! Are you in Texas yet?) She’s just doing her “job” as your writing and crit partner.

Welcome back, COWBELL Jenny! I’ve been thinking about you tons since you told us about your pleurisy and doctor-body-mandated bed rest. Jenny Hansen and suffering and confined do not deserve to be in the same sentence–unless there’s a “not” in there somewhere.

Your recent blogs have inspired a topic for me. Need to find a cheese-block hat. No. I do NOT want to fly to Green Bay to get one. I chose to forgo NaNo this year. AND, have been abysmally silent on ROW 80. That changes today.

SO glad you have your cowbell groove back. OK. Now, you can pay attention to Laura.

Great to see you back and ready for action, Jen ๐Ÿ™‚

Pluralism is a horrible disease, wait, no, you said pleurisy. Okay, nevermind then.

So my question is: What word count widget are you going to use. I know you are fantastic at finding little online gadgets and I’m always looking for new fun things to try out. Please share.

Other ROWNaNo winners I know of: Alberta Ross, Juliana Haygart, Em (wants to write). Go congratulate them. Do it now! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great week, Jen. Really good to have you back with us!

OMG…you made me laugh so hard, Gene! A pluralist indeed. I’m SO proud of all our RowNaNo Crew…I’m gonna be part of that crowd next year, although I continue to wish that NaNo was in February. November seems to be a damn rough month for most of us.

  9. So glad to hear you are feeling better and that you are b-a-a-a-ck! I was wondering what happened to you since I haven’t seen much of you on Twitter. So sorry to hear you were sick ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

You are not alone — I haven’t done much progress on my WIP, at least not as much as I planned. Sigh. Oh well, there is always another week.

Glad you’re feeling better, Jenny! No relapses allowed now!
I didn’t try NaNo and I’ve lost my grip on ROW80. I’ve been bloging like crazy so I can have the whole month of December to write. I have my own challenge going – to write a 100 page short story anthology by Jan 1st.
Good luck on yours, but definitely don’t beat yourself up for getting behind while your behind was in bed!

Whoo-hoo, I’m so happy to hear that you’re back on your feet! I agree — the beauty of ROW80 (besides the awesome community) is its flexibility. There’s no need to feel guilty for ‘slacking off’, because life happens. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you so much for the shout-out! I’m so tickled pink to have reached 50K. I wasn’t sure it would happen, given school and work and all, and I gave myself permission at the start of the month to not make 50k. But here I am, and it’s quite exciting.

    Have a wonderful week, Jenny!

  15. It’s so good to see you back Jenny! What a battle, but you’ve won!

Way to go on that awesome attitude of yours! Don’t let the bug{ger} get you down. Keep going. Don’t stop just because it’s the end of November. If I recall, isn’t there a provision for sick leave or something like that? LOL

Congrats to Lena and Gene! Oh, btw, Prudence Macleod finished NaNo last week too.

I’m with Patricia. Come back slowly. No relapses heh? Take care Jenny and look forward to reading that new book! ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Yeah, Jenny! I’m so glad you are feeling better and are “back.” ๐Ÿ™‚ Now take it slow and stay away from crowds with germy peeps. I love your spirit. Life is life and now that you are getting back to 100%, you can hit your WIP and other goals more 100%.

  17. Yes, you’re back! I know you’ll make your goals, too, in your groovy Jenny way.

My goal is to write at least 500 new words per day between yesterday and end of the year. I’m off to a good start, with 1K the first day. I wish I felt confident enough to make 1K my daily goal, but my arm/shoulder is still healing from that nasty fall in October. My confidence has lagged since I had to forego the NaNo competition. I figure success will breed confidence, and confidence in turn will breed more success. Or something like that.

I’m here to cheer you on!

I tried to leave a comment this morning and my Internet connection went ka-flooey (technical term, right?). So glad you’re back among the go-getters and have made such GREAT progress on the nanny-nanny-boo-boo writing thang. *s*

Hope your Thanksgiving was restful and lovely for all. I did almost NOTHING in the way of work (bad word bad word) today. So I’ll have to make up for it this week. See ya…virtually anyway. *s*

I wasn’t involved in NaNo. I was getting my one wip ready for querying and planning my new project. The timing of NaNo never works for me.

Glad you’re back! I love that same thing about ROW80. I set goals and have accountability, but I don’t beat myself up if life happens and gets me off track. Seeing your post reminds me that I haven’t checked in today yet! Guess I’ll do that now and check at least one goal off the list. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy to see you’ve survived. I didn’t make it, but Dec. looks good for a better story. I know why I slipped. I tried too hard to write a draft that wouldn’t need a whole lot of work. I aimed for the Magical Mystery Novel. Ya know the story that writes itself. Reality kicked in. I am chastened and will be a good writer and be conciencious. December is for the real writers.
