Less than two weeks ago, a whole bunch o’ crazy writers flooded the Twitterverse and camped out on the ROW80 hashtag to party down. The ROCK THE ROW party was Nicole Basaraba’s brainchild to celebrate Kait Nolan’s brainchild, “A Round of Words In 80 Days.”
You know from my “Day After” post that a great time was had by all, but I was so worn out by margaritas and sleeplessness that I didn’t have the energy to haggle over my faves with Nicole Basaraba, my party co-host. However, after recovering for a few days, the emails have been burning across the Atlantic.
I bring to you the “ROCK THE ROW” Photo Finalists!
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to vote for your favorite. Your top three picks will go to Kait Nolan – her top pick will win a copy of Red, her latest e-book.
After the pictures below is a poll listing them by the Submitter’s Name + short description. These pictures aren’t in any particular order. Enjoy and I’ll catch you in the comments section where we discuss how freaking creative this Team Row80 is. 🙂
It all started with Nicole’s party kick-off post with “dog Jenny” in leather and chains and “dog Nicole” with a sassy pink ‘fro:
Then, just before the party got underway, the photos started rolling in. There was Barbara McDowell getting ready to ROCK THE ROW.
We got such a kick out of the photo on the right (of Barbara McDowell “planking”) that she made the list before the party ever started.
But wait, there’s more!
Tia Bach (Miz Depression Cookies) raided her daughters closet for her inspiration and made the finals as ROW80 Guitar Girl!
Natalie Hartford dons pink and black to ROCK THE ROW as a space age strumming sensation! How do you not make the finals in that wig??
And then there was “lampshade kitty,” also submitted by Barbara McDowell. The margaritas had been flowing for a while by the time this pic came to light and there was no turning back.
And the dancing? OH, MAMA was there dancing…
Sonia Madeiros sent in her dancing dog and things got a little wild.
It was after we’d eaten up all the brownies and the crowd surged to their feet with a rousing rhumba for “Dancing Queen.” (Here’s a link in case you’d like to sing along.)
I almost got Gene Lempp up on the table to dance to “Rock the Casbah” by The Clash. But alas, it was time for dinner with the family and some extraordinary Sloppy Joe’s.
Kerry Meacham was the next victim friend to wander in and he let us know he’d drink and party all night long, but NO DANCING. Don’t you worry, Kerry…there’s other parties and my eye’s gonna be trained on you and that dance floor.
And you know who was hogging the karaoke machine all night? That’s right. Sweet little Lena Corazon is an animal once you give her the mic. She and I jumped up on a table for a rousing rendition of “Rock Lobster.”
She danced her way right into the photo finals with both these photos – I went for the big hair and Nicole went for the “rehydrating Lena” with stuffed animal. Sure, that’s water. I’m on to you, Lena!
Back at Chez Hansen, the scene was looking something like this while Baby Girl watched me dance around the living room:
Afterward, we all looked like this, but we had a damn good time!
So, here’s your chance to vote for YOUR fave photos. Simply click our poll below and make your choice. Send the link to your other ROW80 pals so they can vote too. The top three pics will go on to Kait Nolan for the final judging.
Remember, even if your photo doesn’t make it, we know YOU ROCKED. Cause we were there, rocking beside you! (And what happens on the Row, stays on the Row.)
Nicole and I are dying to hear what y’all think about the party pics. We had so much fun looking at them and making our choices. We know you can only vote for one, but we sure hope you tell us about all your favorites in the comment section!
Happy writing to you this week…
Jenny
Bwahahahaha! Love the pics. It brings back memories of a great gathering of friends. I’d missed a few from not being a part of the earlier hours of the party. Sonia’s dancing dog is getting down with the get down for sure. He and lampshade kitty could have gotten rowdy in the conga line. 🙂 Way cool my pre-party planking made the finals as well. So glad I’d gotten limber – all the better to tackle litte Prince at the party and dance in the platforms. Fun stuff. Thanks again Jenny and Nicole!!!

Oh my goodness, you ARE and insomniac! Thanks for coming over and giving your vote. Your planking killed me…that one was mine and Nicole voted in your lampshade kitty. Thanks a bunch for the fun party. Next time I want to do the Funky Slide on Twitter, I’m calling you. 🙂

OMG, you ROW80er’s are out of CONTROL! I’m way too old for that stuff, and the broken ankle precludes me from joining anyway. I’m always up for party pictures though! Tough to choose…
Can’t wait to see the winners!
Rock on!

That’s the beauty of a good Twitter party – you can dance WITH a broken ankle. Sweet, huh? Next time I think you should pop in. Don’t be stodgy, Laura…

Thanks, Susan. We had a rockin’ time and there was more music and fun that I would have every imagined online. I think it’s that writer’s imagination.

Oh gee wheeze! I missed all the glorious fun! *cries* You guys certainly had a fab-tastic time (so it seems), I’m hoping the fresh-cream cakes went down a storm after I left feeling poorly. 😦
My fave picks was a tossup from rehydrating Lena, Sonia’s dancing dog and the Lampshade kitty! lol! Great pics all around.

The cream cake went down great, Oz. We just all felt bad for you having a wicked headache. That’s never fun. Plus, the party was REALLY loud, especially once the music got going.

Loved the plank pic, Barbara.
And, Nicole, that’s the problem with memory. We don’t get to pick which ones resurface. 🙂
The dancing dog won me over. It’s the visual I want in my head for my ROW80 Sunday Check-ins. One niggling worry…
I need to stay hands-on-the-keyboard if I hope to jump with Yee-HAW! ROW80 enthusiasm for my status update today. Two-steppin’ off the dance floor so I can write, write, write.

OMG, that was a great party! Sooooo much fun. I hope you will throw another one to celebrate the end of ROW80!
I had a hard time deciding which photo to vote on – they are awesome. I’m hanging my head in shame because I didn’t submit any. I had too much fun dancing and gulping down those margaritas (oh, wait – I vaguely remember champagne, wine and few other drinks). 🙂

Wasn’t it fun? You came in later and rocked the house till close. It was awesome!
But you were camera shy and I didn’t get any pictures of you. Next time… 🙂

I think Lena and Barbara have stepped up as the next co-hosts. Not only were they AMAZING partyers, I think it’s nice to have a revolving theme. We’ll see what happens, but I definitely know there will be more ROW80 parties. 🙂

So. Much. Awesomeness. My memories of the party were a little hazy, but it’s all coming back to me now (can we flag that as the Karaoke Song of Choice at the next party? Y’all know you want some Celine Dion…). I actually think I may have lost an earring after all the dancing, but it was well worth it. 😉

Awesome stuff, Jen. Vote cast, hard choice but that planking Barbara did on the stool takes some serious skills. So yeah. Go Team ROW!

You ROW80-ers know how to rock a great party! I’ve heard that Barb is going to lead a group planking exercise before the next one to make sure everyone is limbered up for the dance floor … even Kerry! I think we WANA711ROW80 cheerleaders will have to attend the next bash to add more encouragement from the sidelines … obviously not that any was needed!

These are awesome photos. My vote isn’t the most popular but OH WELL! I wish I hadn’t missed the Rock the Row party as I even suggested a song, but I was at some school meeting (!!) or something. Like my kids education is more important than me rocking with a bunch of writing people! Sheesh.
Thanks for commenting on my blog post. Appreciated!
