Celebrating Life’s Milestone’s – Life List Club Style

Back in early July, I joined up with The Life List Club as their August contributing writer. (Each month we take on a new contributor for the bi-weekly blog hops.) Here we are, less than three months later, having a Milestone Party!

For those of you who are new, this is where all the Club members post their progress and give away something really groovy. It might be a book, a prize or some publicity but we’re all doing it and the prizes are very cool.

Plus there’s cake and ice cream and balloons of all types. (I mean, look at him.)

I am giving away two prizes – one to a commenter on this post and one to a subscriber. If you do either of those things, I will enter you into the hat for your choice of the following:

  • A guest post by me at your blog.
  • An interview of you and promotion of your cause/site here at More Cowbell.

Both items should be a BLAST and I hope you’ll join in by commenting below or clicking on the “Sign Me Up!” subscribe button in the upper right of this screen (by my picture). Maybe you’d like to do both…don’t be shy!

Other prizes (below in blue):

To a lucky commenter, a copy of a short story, Bubba’s First Cruise
To a lucky subscriber, a guest post swap.

  • Diana Ligaya – 2 Prizes (her post’ll be up soon!)

A copy of Joseph Campbell’s book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces
An in-depth critique for fiction up to 15,000 words.

Emily is giving away a 5 piece (4X6) photo series by Kate Moir.

3 books: Oliver Twist, Secret Garden and A Little Princess
10-page in depth critique

One lucky subscriber gets a signed copy of Shifting by Bethany Wiggins

To one lucky subscriber:
A copy of flash fiction, Night Moves.
An invitation to guest post or be interviewed on my blog.
The winner’s name used for a character in my trilogy, The Dance and The Dancer

Winner’s choice of one of the following:

  1. Excerpt from her novel-in-progress or a copy of her short story, Elevated.
  2. Interview the winner on their goals and ambitions for a future post in Hawleyville.
  3. Option to publish a piece of their own fiction/essay (up to 2,000 words) or do a guest post at Hawleyville.

Sonia is giving away a copy of Larry Brooks’ Story Engineering e-book

Violeta is Lyn Midnight! She’s giving an in-depth critique of two chapters of your WIP

Be sure to visit all Life List Club blog hop sites – these hops are every other Friday! You can click on each person’s name above or find the entire LLC Blogroll in my right sidebar. Click here for my first Life List Club post (on Gene Lempp’s site) called Playing To Your Strengths. It got a seal of approval from Kristen Lamb – WOOT!

What exactly is The Life List Club?

The best definition of The Life List can be found here. The Life List Club is about connecting, and publicly stating some life goals you’d like to accomplish over the next 12 months (for me that will be by the next 4th of July). It’s about encouraging others in their goals.

Below, I highlighted the goals I’ve achieved in green. The rest are a work in progress. Those that I’ve decided are unfeasible, I’ve crossed out.

Jenny’s Life List

  1. Finish the polished first draft of my high-risk pregnancy memoir.
  2. Visit ROW80 blogs and bloggers every week – encourage at least two new people.
  3. Exercise a minimum of 3 hours a week.
  4. Try kickboxing classes at 24-Hour Fitness.
  5. Send the rest of last year’s presents – with death, moving and baby I’ve been pitiful in this department. (I’ve gotten some out and am trying to find the others. Oy.)
  6. Make more time for reading – at least two hours per week.
  7. Implement guest bloggers on More Cowbell (Life List Club is the start of that!).
  8. Research climbing vines for the back yard perimeter wall – plant them.
  9. Create an area to plant potatoes – plant them.
  10. Plant the 3 bags of bulbs in my garage!
  11. Read “Save The Cat” and Christopher Vogler’s “The Writer’s Journey.”
  12. Take Bob Mayer’s Warrior Writer again when I have time to devote to it.
  13. Take two courses from Margie Lawson’s Lawson Writer’s Academy.
  14. Look into teaching at LWA or elsewhere online.
  15. Attend the 2012 DFW Conference (I’ve started saving for this.)
  16. Begin submitting freelance pieces to build writing income.
  17. Take Baby Girl to Gymboree at least 1x per month.
  18. Take Baby Girl to Story Hour at the library at least 1x per month. (Didn’t care for this.)
  19. Entertain at home every few months.
  20. Have one night a week that belongs solely to my honey. (We’ve managed this about every other week so far.)

Have you made a Life List yet? Are you willing to share a goal here? If you’re not to that place yet, we’d love to hear about the last milestone you’ve achieved in your life. Enquiring minds always want to know here at More Cowbell!

Good luck achieving your dreams!
Jenny

  1. Hi, Jenny! I now PUBLICLY STATE IN ALL CAPS THAT I WILL ADD A LIFE LIST PAGE to my blog by October 10th. I want in on the fun. I want in on the camadarie. I want in on the challenge.

I was awake at 3:00 a.m. pondering when my days grew legs and ran away from me. SURE, I managed to put up a blog, but I haven’t maintained regular posts. SURE, I made progress on my WIP, but I’m ACKably close to GH crash and burn. SURE, I took the leap to FB Pages and pimped for LIKES.

Sadly, I’m also SURE I’ll need Spanx to rescue me for a month or two until I get back into what once was a regular exercise routine.

Balance and accountability and fun. Three things The Life List offers. I’m in. On or before October 10th. Why October 10th you don’t ask, but I explain anyway? B/C I’m in twirly-top mode preparing for a trip and won’t return until the 8th. My LIFE LIST requires thought to ping serious, achievable, and balanced for my first go-round. ENJOY your vacation!

WOW, GO GLORIA! (See, I’ll take your CAPS and match ’em. 🙂 )

Did you read Roni Loren’s social media post last Friday over at WITS? It’s about doing what’s comfortable, not wearing yourself out. Breath, my friend, BREATHE!

Then, set your Life List goals…

Congrats on the milestone and on the success on your life list thus far. You are doing great. You should definitely check out kickboxing classes. I did it for years and loved it. So empowering! And the best workout ever. I think after my first class I couldn’t raise my arms up over my head for 3 days…lol…but it was worth it. The Life List Club rocks. Looks like I got a ton of visiting to do today! 🙂

I like how all of your goals synch up into becoming a stronger, more giving and healthy woman! Absolutely fabulous, Jenny! I’m so pleased to have you with us. Tell me, will you be wearing that giant balloon concoction at the DFW conference? I’m hoping to attend as well, and I’ll be looking for you. 😉

    Happy milestone party!

Thanks, Jennie! It’s funny, I didn’t feel like I was making ANY progress and then I looked and saw that I’d done more than I thought. I did go try a Zumba class and liked it, but wished for different shoes so I could really slide around without twisting and ankle in my cross-trainers.

Have I told you that I love your list? It’s so… detailed. And I see you’ve made progress so I salute you with a glass of suspiciously green punch (okay, who spiked it?). And I love the balloons, makes me think of summer fairs… now all we need is cotton candy. 🙂

Thanks, Violeta. You hadn’t told me and I’m so glad. And hey, that green punch has some way yummy Midori going on. My umbrella is this very sassy pink…what color is yours?

  11. You have an amazing list of goals here! Congrats on getting where you are with them and good luck on finishing the rest! I would love to be involved in LLC; I follow a few of the people who do it (including you). I’ve always found myself drawn to the posts about it and how far people have gone in their goals as well as the guest posts hop that happens every couple of weeks. I could give an excuse that I don’t have enough time for it, but it be only that: an excuse.
Those are some great prized you’ve got lined up too! I think I would pass out from hyperventilating caused by my excitement if I won either of them, lol=)

Kathleen, you can absolutely get involved in LLC! Make your goals and state them publicly on a page on your blog. Hang out at #LifeListClub on Twitter. If you want to get MORE involved, email Jess or Marcia and throw your name in the hat.

If you subscribed, you’re in the hat TWICE for a prize. 🙂

  12. Well, Jenny, what a great list. You are my heroine! I keep thinking about goals–not like I don’t have them, ya know, just do I want to announce them to the world

I had to laugh at not caring for the story hour for Baby Girl. I had the same reaction with my boys–and I have a degree in Library Science (shh!) LOL

I’ll tell you, Elizabeth, it was SCARY to announce my goals to the world. I mean, Christmas presents from LAST YEAR that I still can’t find??? Yes, I moved and lost a mother-in-law in that time, but it was reeeeaaaallly embarrassing to let the whole world know I’m such a disorganized mess.

Then I did it and it wasn’t so bad. Really. You’ll have to decide if it’s the kind of stress you can take. (My money is on you.)

Yes, I went to story hour twice and the room was SO crowded, with sniffling hyper kids and moms who said “Be quiet!” 16 times rather than take the kid outside for a minute. It just wasn’t engaging or soothing for either of us.
