Row80 Update – 8/21/11

I’ve been dismal about my ROW80 updates lately which, considering how many new friends I’ve made from it, is just not right. 🙂

Wednesday updates are very hit and miss because Monday and Tuesday are back-breaking days each week, but I will be more diligent on the Sunday updates.

Blogging Goals:

  • This continues to be a very fun goal area for me, so of course I’m knocking it out of the park with 4-5 posts each week.
  • Last Thursday’s blog, titled Do Writers Read Differently Than Non-Writers? took off in a way I didn’t expect. Random House posted it to their Facebook page and tweeted it and the hits went crazy last Friday. It was one of those days where you pinch yourself. Since I wrote that post to make my More Cowbell posse laugh, I can only say “thanks a bunch, y’all!”

WIP Goals:

  • I am writing on my pregnancy memoir but it isn’t half as fun as blogging! I’ve written a lot of the fun parts already and I’m having to write the scenes that comprise some of the blackest moments of my pregnancy. Only 800 words this week and each one is like pulling teeth.
  • One of my critique partners suggested that I take snippets of the memoir and turn them into a weekend feature on pregnancy and parenting here at More Cowbell. I’d sure love to get some feedback on that! (questions below)

ROW80 Encouragement:

  • It is my practice when I post to go to at least two of the update blogs and leave a comment. I do that for pals like Gene LemppCatie Rhodes and Jamila Jamison but I need to spread the Love Net a little further over Team Row80.
  • Since I’ve been less diligent about checking in, it has spilled over onto the encouragement goal. I’m going to be sure to check in at least once a week from now on.

Exercising:

  • The gym isn’t progressing at a very rapid rate but the walking is.
  • My husband and I have made a pact that we have to walk to any restaurants we want to go to (the closest is a mile away) and we’ve gotten 5-6 miles of walking in each week doing this.
  • I’m taking a 4 mile lunchtime walk every Tuesday. With the walks I’m taking with Baby Girl, I’m getting a minimum of 10 miles walking in each week.
  • We do “The Biggest Loser” at work and I came in 3rd this last round (which this time just meant that I didn’t gain weight…LOL). I won $14, which was pretty exciting.

What about you? How are your goals going? Do you have ideas for a catchy title for a pregnancy post on the weekends? What do you think of my idea to crystallize my book thoughts via a blog post? Enquiring minds always want to know here at More Cowbell!

Have a great week!
Jenny

Hmm…pregnancy excerpts…how about “Great Expectations”? LOL. Great job on the walking, and good luck with the rest!

That is much cuter than what has come to me so far. Things like “High-Risk Rollercoaster” are total downers…I’m gonna throw yours in the ring with the final choices. It’s very cute!

I was going to suggest “Pop Goes the Weasel” (facetious) but I think Kathy’s suggestion is better. Great job on your goals, Jen, you are rocking the ROW lady!

Good plan on the walks. I get in about 4 3/4 miles a week, but add many stair trips to that both at home and work, which is another fun fitness idea.

    Have a great week 🙂

Nice, Gene! Count on a guy to get “Pop” in there. Lol.

I don’t feel like I’m rocking the ROW because the WIP is so slow lately so THANK YOU, Gene. It’s encouraging that it looks better than it feels. Y’all are the best. 🙂

  4. My goals need to be modified. It seems that as I make these goals, I’m learning more about myself more than anything. 🙂

It does seem like that’s the way it works on the first round you do (at least that’s been my experience). The great part about Row80 is that it encourages things like that. Go, Marilag!

LOL at both Great Expectations and Pop Goes the Weasel. Honestly, I think the memoir transition could be a wonderful breakout opportunity for you–that way you’ll have interested readers when you publish the book. Cross migration is Key.

    Good luck this week!

As another commenter mentioned, I need to restate my goals for #ROW80. I’ve also been lagging on Sunday posting. I really want my weekend.

I really appreciate your support at my blog. Having you for a pal means a lot. Those of us who are intense can do nothing other than stick together. 😀

Thanks, Catie! Back atcha, girl. 🙂

I think it really, really helps to have a posse (at least that’s what gets me through). And I like ROW80 BECAUSE it gets that you have a life and can re-state goals. You’re doing great, last I saw. Gene was my cheerleader, so I’m gonna be yours!

Your blog posts have been on fire lately, and I love that last Thursday’s went viral! Also, I really like the idea of using snippets of the memoir and turning them into blog posts. I’m doing something similar for my ‘Thesis Thursday’ series, and after I finish writing each one, I find that I appreciate my thesis a lot more. Given that I have days when I want to chuck the whole project out a window and run far, far away, I need to feel that boost of energy. :p

Keep up all the fantastic work!

Thanks, Jamila! I’m convinced that blogging has saved my writing because I have so much fun with all of you. 🙂

That’s fantastic that you’re using your blog to help you with your thesis. I think sharing snippets of my memoir woul amp me enough to get me over the dark moments. But what to call the feature…

well done on the viral post – the blogs doing well- the pregnancy – if your feelings are coming through then I guess that will be an honest account – sometimes pregnancy and child birth are too airbrushed – honesty is good – exercises great- am positivly emerald with my greeness! – but having lost more weight this week am managing a little more on my step machine and can now manage the whole dog walk without a sit down!!!

all the best for this week

Nice job on the walk, Alberta! I think I get to tinge at least a little green because I haven’t lost a pound in like three months! Oy.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

I love blogging to, and I think it’s because the feedback is more immediate. I think the posts we have more fun with, the readers have more fun with. Kudos for your impressive post. Sounds like other goals are coming along as well. Hope you continue to roll!
